Breathe Between Moments

Aloha friend,

Have you ever looked up from your day and realized you were physically with your family or friends... but your mind was somewhere else completely?

Thinking about the next task. The next bill. The next message.

I have been there too.

Life can feel like a big swirling storm of responsibilities and noise. Appointments, texts, emails, dishes, errands. It is easy to rush through the moments that actually matter most... the soft laughter at the dinner table, the way a friend’s eyes brighten when they see you, the quiet comfort of just being together.

Those are the moments where joy lives.

But we only feel them when we are present.

Not perfect. Not “caught up on everything.” Just here. Right now.

The storm and the center

In my card collection, there is one design that captures this feeling so beautifully. It is called Center of the Storm. It looks like stained glass in motion... sapphire blues like waves, fiery oranges like sparks, emerald bursts like new growth. Everything around the edges feels like swirling movement.

But in the middle is this warm golden center... still, calm, glowing.

Every time I look at it, I think, “That is life.”

The swirl is not going away. There will always be things to do, places to be, people to care for. But inside all of that, we have a choice. We can keep spinning with the storm, or we can return to our center... that inner place that remembers what truly matters.

Tiny choices of presence

Being present with the people we love usually shows up in small, quiet ways:

  • Putting the phone down when someone is talking
  • Letting the to do list wait while you finish a story or a hug
  • Looking someone in the eye when you say, “I am listening” or “I love you”

These tiny choices are how we come back to center, right in the middle of a busy day.

Let this card be a reminder

Center of the Storm is more than a pretty card. It can be a gentle nudge to pause.

Place it where you will see it often. Each time your eyes land on it, let it remind you to take one slow breath and ask:

“What really matters in this moment”

Maybe it is listening a little longer.

Maybe it is sending a note to someone who is struggling.

Maybe it is giving yourself grace and choosing rest.

This card is also beautiful to send to a friend who is in a busy or stressful season. You might write:

“Life might feel like a storm right now, but there is calm in the middle. I am here for you.”

Simple words. Real love.

Presence does not require a perfect life. Just a willing heart that keeps coming back to center, again and again.

Thank you for walking this journey with me, dear friend. Here is to more eye contact, more shared laughter, and more moments that we are truly here for.

Ahui Ho, Toodle Pip, and until next time...
