about
Carissa Browning is a multi-craftual maker from the United States, currently living in the Netherlands. She has been knitting and crocheting for over 20 years, and has more recently picked up spinning and weaving too.
With a background in math, she particularly enjoys playing with geometry and developing new methods of constructing familiar shapes and patterns using knitted or crocheted fabric. Prime examples of these experiments would be her Thisaway (knit) and Thataway (crochet) shawls, which take an entirely different approach to the triangular shawl, and her Breaking Plaid cowl that combines double knitting and double-stranding (marling) to create a double-thick, double-sided plaid fabric.
Her designs have appeared in The Fellowship of the Knits, Star Wars: Knitting the Galaxy, The Official Gilmore Girls Knitting Book, New Directions in Sock Knitting, Pom Pom Quarterly, and other publications, along with numerous self-published patterns.
Carissa has taught virtual classes for yarn shops, festivals, retreats, and guilds across North America, as well as in-person classes at local yarn shops and fiber festivals.
