The Great Commission Is Still Our Assignment - June 24, 2026
There are people God desires to reach.
There are families that need Jesus.
There are communities that need Jesus.
There are leaders, kings, nations and generations that need Jesus.
And according to Scripture, God has chosen to involve His people in carrying the message of reconciliation to them.
This is why we pray.
This is why we preach.
This is why we intercede.
And this is why we cannot become so consumed with our personal lives that we forget the enormous Kingdom assignment before us.
Souls matter to God.
Why Is God Waiting?
Second Peter 3 gives us an extraordinary glimpse into the heart of God.
What may appear to humanity as delay is described in Scripture as patience.
“The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is extraordinarily patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.”
— 2 Peter 3:9 AMP
Think about that.
God’s patience is connected to people.
There are still souls to be reached.
There are still people who haven’t heard.
There are still people who haven’t surrendered.
There are still prodigals who need to come home.
There are still Sauls who can encounter Jesus and become Pauls.
So while we’re waiting for the return of Christ, we have work to do.
We Are Ministers of Reconciliation
The Great Commission wasn’t given only to pastors, evangelists, missionaries or people standing behind pulpits.
Every believer carries something valuable:
the testimony of what Jesus Christ has done.
You don’t need somebody else’s testimony.
You don’t need somebody else’s personality.
You don’t need somebody else’s platform.
You need to be willing to tell the truth about what Jesus has done for you.
That conversation at work matters.
That person God keeps placing on your heart matters.
That unexpected encounter in the grocery store may matter.
That person sitting beside you may be somebody you’ve been positioned to encourage, pray for or tell about Jesus.
We are ministers of reconciliation.
And reconciliation means somebody has to carry the message that through Jesus Christ, humanity can be reconciled to God.
Before We Call the Nations, We Humble Ourselves
But Kingdom authority cannot be separated from Kingdom surrender.
Second Chronicles 7:14 gives us a pattern:
Humble ourselves.
Pray.
Seek His face.
Turn from wicked ways.
Then God says He will hear from heaven, forgive sin and heal the land.
Notice where the instruction begins.
Not with them.
With us.
“My people.”
Before we point toward everything wrong with the world, God calls His own people into humility, prayer, repentance and surrender.
Revival isn’t merely something we ask God to do out there.
It begins with yielded hearts right here.
Clean Hands Matter
During the livestream, we also visited Job 22:30 and the extraordinary picture it gives of intercession:
“He will even rescue the one [for whom you intercede] who is not innocent; and he will be rescued through the cleanness of your hands.”
— Job 22:30 AMP
That should make us think differently about holiness.
Our surrender isn’t merely about ourselves.
Our obedience can affect what we’re able to carry in prayer for somebody else.
That’s another reason I keep praying:
Lord, keep me humble.
Keep my heart clean.
Keep my hands clean.
Keep me surrendered.
Because somebody else may need the intercession God has entrusted to me.
Neutralize the Assignment of the Enemy
Throughout this livestream, we repeatedly prayed against the works, words, plans and strategies of the enemy.
We weren’t praying from fear.
We were praying from our position in Christ.
Our confidence is not in our ability to overpower darkness through human strength. Our confidence is in Jesus Christ and His finished work.
We pray.
We submit to God.
We resist evil.
We stand on God’s Word.
We refuse agreement with lies.
And we continue carrying out the assignment God has given us.
The enemy does not get to become the center of our attention.
Jesus remains the center.
Creation Is Waiting
Romans 8 describes creation as eagerly waiting for the revealing of the sons and daughters of God.
That means there is something the earth should be able to witness through surrendered believers.
Not merely people who know Scripture.
Not merely people who attend church.
But people whose lives reveal that they belong to God.
People who walk in love.
People who carry truth.
People who pray.
People who obey.
People who are willing to go when God says go.
People who understand that their authority is delegated authority—we move under the authority of Jesus Christ, not independently from Him.
What About Kings?
During this livestream, we prayed specifically for people in positions of influence and authority.
Why?
Because they need Jesus too.
Scripture repeatedly shows God reaching people across every level of society. Acts 10 records the remarkable story of Cornelius, whose household became part of a pivotal moment as the Gospel spread to the Gentiles.
We don’t determine beforehand whom God can reach.
We pray for the poor.
We pray for the wealthy.
We pray for families.
We pray for leaders.
We pray for people whose names we’ll never know.
We pray for people whose decisions affect nations.
We pray because salvation belongs to God, and no category of humanity is excluded from needing Christ.
Billions for Christ
This is why the phrase Billions for Christ isn’t simply about a large number.
It’s about remembering the scale of the Great Commission.
Jesus said:
“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”
— Mark 16:15 AMP
All the world.
That is enormous language.
So we’re allowed to pray enormous prayers.
We’re allowed to believe God for households.
We’re allowed to believe God for cities.
We’re allowed to believe God for nations.
We’re allowed to pray for people we haven’t met yet.
We’re allowed to call forth laborers for the harvest.
And we’re allowed to say:
Lord, use us.
However You want.
Wherever You want.
Whenever You want.
This Is Bigger Than Us
Maybe that’s one of the greatest shifts God is producing in His people:
Moving us from—
“Lord, bless my plans.”
to—
“Lord, what are Your plans?”
From—
“What can You do for me?”
to—
“What would You like to do through me?”
From protecting our comfort to surrendering our lives.
From building our own little kingdoms to seeking His Kingdom first.
And suddenly the Great Commission becomes personal.
There is someone somewhere who needs the Jesus you know.
So pray.
Intercede.
Tell your testimony.
Share the Gospel.
Stay surrendered.
Keep your hands clean.
And when God places someone on your heart—
CALL THEM FORTH.
Because the Great Commission is not finished.
And neither is our assignment.
Billions for Christ.
Closing Prayer
Father, humble us and make us usable. Search our hearts and remove anything that interferes with Your purposes. Keep our hands clean, our hearts pure and our attention fixed upon Jesus. Teach us to intercede according to Your will and to stand firmly upon Your Word. Give us boldness to share the Gospel and compassion for those who do not yet know You. We pray for households, communities, leaders and nations. Send laborers into Your harvest, and show each of us where You have called us to serve. May Jesus Christ be glorified and many come to repentance and salvation. In Jesus’ name, amen.
