Today, I'm making a bold declaration: I'm committing to quitting my 9-to-5 job by March 2027. Yes, you read that right. I'm putting it out there, in black and white, for all of you to see. Why? Because I believe in the power of choice, and I'm choosing my freedom.
Now, you might be wondering, "Why March 2027?" Well, it's not just some arbitrary date I pulled out of thin air. I've crunched the numbers, my friends. I've calculated, projected, and planned. By March 2027, I'll reach what's known as "coast FIRE" (Financial Independence, Retire Early) which means my money will grow to cover my yearly expenses without having to contribute any further.
Here's the breakdown:
- I'll have €100k invested in the stock market
- Assuming an 8% return (which is conservative by historical standards), this will grow to a cool €1.2 million by the time I’m 65
- I've factored in my yearly investments, passive income streams, and a cash buffer
But let's be real - this isn't going to happen by magic. I've got a game plan, and I'm not afraid to share it:
- Job Hopping for Higher Salaries: I'm not staying put. I'm actively looking for opportunities to switch jobs for significant salary increases. More income means more to invest.
- Ramping Up Investments: With higher salaries come higher investment rates. I'm committed to funneling as much as possible into wealth-building vehicles.
- Diversifying Passive Income: The stock market is great, but it's not my only play. I'm focused on growing other assets (rental property, etc…) that generate passive income. Multiple streams, baby!
- Upskilling Like There's No Tomorrow: In this rapidly changing world, standing still is moving backward. I'm committed to non-stop learning and skill development. It's not just about staying relevant; it's about staying ahead.
This journey won't be easy. There will be setbacks, doubts, and moments when the 9-to-5 comfort zone seems too cozy to leave. But that's why I'm sharing this with you. You're my accountability partners now.
So, who's with me? Who's ready to choose their freedom?
Let's make it happen.
Your fellow freedom seeker,
Mandi
