You Are Valuable
"For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother's womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well." Psalm 139:13-14 ESV
Have you ever found yourself doubting your identity and your worth? For years, I struggled with identity issues. I couldn't see how special I was in God's sight or comprehend the high value He placed on me as His child. I allowed others to define me; my identity was wrapped up in who they thought I should be instead of who God said I am.
So often, as women, we assess our worth using outside opinions. We give those opinions more significance than God's thoughts toward us. He put careful thought into our creation. This verse evokes the imagery of a seamstress who has her pattern drawn and material laid out. Her scissors are poised to cut and shape, and her threaded needle is ready to stitch the garment. I can envision her pleasure when the finished product is revealed.
How much more detailed and intricately planned was our creation within the womb? I can only fathom how the Lord smiled when we were delivered at birth, pleased with His handiwork. Today, you may feel undervalued and that no one cares. May I remind you the Creator of heaven and earth placed such an astonishing value on you and me that He created us in His image and likeness!
When I realized my worth is found in Christ and truly understood that I am defined by Him alone, it changed how I saw myself. The work to reverse the negative mindset was gradual, and I saw the effects of the change over time. Let us love and accept ourselves according to who God says we are and the value He has placed on us. Remember, we are His masterpiece and a one-of-a-kind creation.
Encouragement: As an image bearer, you are beautiful just the way you are; that's how the Creator designed you, and He didn't make a mistake with either of us.
Question to Ponder
What would it look like if you truly knew how valuable you are in the sight of God?
Let Us Pray
Father, we praise you for who you are. Thank you for loving us and creating us in your image and likeness. When I don't see the value in myself, your word reminds me that you carefully thought of me when you formed me in my mother's womb. Thank you. Holy Spirit, help me value and see myself as my heavenly Father sees me. Amen.
