Who am I?

Hello there. I'm Corné, dutch artist and living in The Hague. For whole my life I have been busy doing art. Since the dawn of the internet I sell my work online. Therefor my work can be seen in many countries all over the world.

The Light

I employ a variety of styles that all have one thing in common: the ever search for the light on phenomena and all the shadows and light planes they block in. My favorites in doing so are oil paint, dry pastel and graphite pencil.

Styles

It is not the form or the theme that counts but the way planes of certain tonal quality vary and block in the lights. I combine figurative work with the search for abstraction. I think neither of them individually can provide the desired art statement the public expects from an artist.

Besides all that, exaggeration and deviation is the standard and results in a typical use of a balanced colour scheme and a hugh tonal bandwith, in order to create art that, when the canvas or paper would be torn into pieces, in essence still would be recognizable.

A specific style is what I call ‘roundism’ and is my personal version of traditional cubism practised by Pablo Picasso and George Braque. Big rivers gain contribution from many side streams and so these cubist giant inspirators were followed by people like Tamara de Lempicka with her conal shaped figures and her sharp tonal cadences.

Even impressionists like Claude Monet for his love of the light and jack-of-all-trades Leo Gestel, merging all sorts of styles into his own styled figurations. I could go forever mentioning all inspirators.

The result is a combination of styled cubist figuration with attention to a sound atmospheric depth and feel for composition, anatomy and tonal rhythym. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or remarks on this style. I will be happy to discuss them with you.
