Your job changed. Your body changed. Your style should too.
If your closet has been feeling a little blah lately, this may be your sign to invite some color into your wardrobe because color is confidence.
Bold colors don't have to overwhelm! There are many subtle ways to introduce color into your wardrobe, such as colorful accessories, statement shoes, strategic color blocking, or bright layers. I love bold prints and color. I have a motto: “Neutral closets are safe, colorful closets are confident closets”.
Integrating color into your wardrobe is a form of self-expression; color is one of those nonverbal communications that can convey your personality and how you want to be perceived by others. The right color does more than match your skin; it lifts your mood and energy.
Color is fun, and experimenting with color helps you discover new favorites, pushes you beyond your fashion comfort zone. Confidence grows when you feel authentic in what you are wearing. Your style is uniquely yours. Embracing bold colors, prints, and different combinations that reflect your personality adds excitement to your wardrobe.
We recommend starting with colors opposite each other on the color wheel (like blue and orange) or adjacent colors (like purple and blue). Keep the silhouettes simple to let the colors do the talking. Pair the color with a neutral. Wearing a color with white, ivory, or denim makes it feel more balanced
One of the safest ways to add new colors to your wardrobe is by starting small; Add a little pop with an accessory, like a handbag or a piece of jewelry, or in a print mixed with other colors you love and that look good on you. Choosing the right colors doesn't diminish elegance but multiplies it. Choose colors that are chic, elegant, and confident.
If you are incorporating color into your wardrobe for the first time, you may want to ground the color with a neutral, such as tan, brown, white, or black. Olive green, terracotta, soft mustard, and burgundy are also neutrals, they are considered elevated neutrals that carry the same elegance as black and tan.
Let 2025 be the year you invite color into your wardrobe. In this blog post, I will share simple, practical tips to help you add color to your wardrobe with less effort.
1. Start with Your Signature Color Palette: The first step is to incorporate style and colors that give you a sense of empowerment. Have you tried adding golden tones and bold accessories to your outfits? The key is aligning your wardrobe colors with natural beauty to help everything mix and match effortlessly.
2. The One-Third Rule- A good rule of thumb is to keep bold colors to about one-third of your outfit. This might mean wearing a bold, colored top with neutral bottoms, or vice versa.
3. Embrace Colorful Footwear- Shoes are often overlooked as a color opportunity. Red pumps, teal sneakers, or yellow loafers can be surprisingly versatile. We have found that colorful shoes work especially well with monochromatic outfits- think all white, navy, or beige. The color creates a focal point without competing with other elements.
4. Color-Blocking- Color-blocking involves pairing two or more solid colors together in one outfit. The key is choosing colors that complement each other.
5. Layering: Layering provides another opportunity to incorporate color without commitment.
6. Organize Your Closet by Color- Organize your closet by category and color to make styling easier. If a piece doesn’t make you feel good or is not being worn. Let it go. A curated closet eliminates stress and gives you more options with less effort. Using color to organize your closet can help reduce decision fatigue and make it easier to find what you’re looking for.
