How to Plan a Wedding-Themed Murder Mystery Party

A wedding-themed murder mystery party combines the familiar details of a reception with a fictional crime full of secrets. The theme works for a standalone adult game night: guests become characters in the story, not versions of themselves. Start with the game’s player requirements, then add reception touches that make the setting feel special.

Choose a story built for your guest count

Wedding Day Murder: Online Multiplayer supports 4–12 adults, including odd-numbered groups and the host. One host purchases and invited guests join the private room free. The fictional story begins when wealthy groom Nathaniel Hayes is found murdered before the ceremony. Avoid reading beyond the public setup if you plan to play without knowing the ending.

Explain the format in the invitation

Tell guests this is an 18+ fictional murder mystery with wedding drama. Include the date, start time, expected duration and whether you are meeting in person or remotely. Ask each player to bring an internet-connected phone, tablet or computer with a modern browser. Costumes can be optional wedding-guest outfits, a bright accessory or a simple name card.

Use reception decor that helps the game

A small bouquet, place cards and a navy-and-gold table setting can suggest an elegant wedding without a full venue makeover. Make room for devices and notes. Avoid assigning seating based on imagined alliances before you read the game instructions. Background music should be low enough that nobody misses a character statement.

Keep character information private

The game includes twelve developed wedding characters with public introductions, private backstories, secrets, objectives and chapter prompts. Flexible assignments cover groups of 4–12; unoccupied characters remain part of the investigation through witness statements and exhibits. Each player should read their own packet. Do not share screenshots of private information with the whole group.

Plan the evening around the chapters

Wedding Day Murder includes seven story chapters and an 80-minute activity plan, within a target 60–90-minute session. Timing depends on discussion and breaks. Serve food before the investigation or pause deliberately between activities. The case includes three evidence puzzles, voting on killer, method and motive, and a final confession with a detective scorecard.

Choose automated or host-controlled play

Automated mode can help organize the sequence; host-controlled mode lets the host manage progress. Both use the same fixed mystery and murderer. Agree on a discussion style before starting so one player does not dominate every theory. When someone makes an accusation, ask which record or statement supports it instead of voting on confidence alone.

For remote guests, test the call separately

Use your own voice or video call; the game does not include an integrated calling feature. Cameras are optional. Ask everyone to join the room before starting. Rooms remain available for seven days, and reconnection uses the same browser on the same device. Changing devices or clearing browser data can lose saved player identity.

Finish with a spoiler-free celebration

After voting and the confession, discuss the best deductions and funniest character moments. A group photo can celebrate the evening without showing evidence or the solution. Since the murderer is fixed, avoid public spoilers and save the story for a new group rather than promising returning players a different killer.
