A supplier CSV can look nearly correct and still contain repeated rows, accidental spaces, and empty records. Here is a small example of the three cleanup operations in CSV Cleanroom, our offline browser app.
THE EXAMPLE
Imagine a file with the columns sku, name, and price. It contains these four data records:
• A-01 / Mug / 12.00, with spaces around the SKU and name.
• A-01 / Mug / 12.00 again, without those spaces.
• B-02 / Bowl / 18.50.
• An empty record with three empty fields.
We ran this fictional example through the shipped cleanup engine. With trimming, blank-record removal, and exact deduplication selected, the result is two product records: A-01 / Mug / 12.00 and B-02 / Bowl / 18.50. The report records two changed values, one removed duplicate, and one removed empty record. The column-name record stays in place.
WHY THE ORDER MATTERS
The two Mug records become identical after their surrounding spaces are removed. Deduplication compares the complete cleaned row. It does not merge records merely because they share a SKU. If two rows have different prices, both remain for you to review.
HOW TO DO IT IN CSV CLEANROOM
1. Extract the purchased ZIP and open index.html in your desktop browser.
2. Choose your UTF-8 CSV or TSV and the correct separator. Try sample data first if you want to learn the controls.
3. Confirm whether the first record contains column names. Select only the cleanup operations you want.
4. Review the output and change report, then download the cleaned CSV. Your original file is left untouched.
WHEN THIS TOOL FITS
Use it for small exports that need these specific mechanical fixes, especially when you want processing to stay on your computer. It does not repair malformed CSV, edit Excel workbooks, resolve conflicting records, or find approximate duplicates. Limits apply together: 5 MB, 50,000 records, 200 columns, and 500,000 cells.
KEEP PRODUCT CODES INTACT
Values stay as text inside the app. A spreadsheet may reinterpret them when opened, so use its text-import controls to preserve leading zeros. Treat the change report like your source data because it includes original values.
