Before You Commit to Travel Baseball: Ask These Five Questions

Travel baseball can affect your budget, calendar, and family routines. Before accepting a roster spot, get clear answers to these questions.

1. What will the full season cost?

Ask about team fees, uniforms, tournament admission, equipment, lessons, transportation, hotels, and meals. Request a written estimate, payment deadlines, and refund terms.

2. What are we committing to?

Confirm practice frequency, tournament weekends, travel distances, and attendance rules. Consider siblings, work schedules, school responsibilities, and downtime before saying yes.

3. What should we expect from coaching?

Ask how coaches handle playing time, positions, development, mistakes, and parent communication. Understand what the team guarantees—and what it does not.

4. Does our player actually want this?

Talk privately with your child. Listen for interest, not pressure to please adults. Discuss what makes baseball enjoyable and what feels overwhelming.

5. When would we reconsider?

Agree on checkpoints and reasons to leave, including financial strain, exhaustion, or lost enjoyment. Review cancellation obligations before paying.
