Beauty & Spirituality

This is the flowering season of the Pink Poui tree and all over our neighbourhood is blessed with the beauty of these tall magnificent flowering trees. Together with the blossoming bougainvilla shrubs in all colours, it is truly a sight to behold. Surrounded by such natural beauty something stirs deep within me—a sense of reverence.

Beauty and Aesthetics are part of our Spirituality. The neatness of a flower garden, the rhythm of the Rosary, the cleanliness of a home—all of these are 'beautiful' in a spiritual sense because they reveal harmony, humility, and divine presence.

Natural Beauty can be sacramental. It mediates grace. It invites us to stop, to see, and to contemplate. A beautiful icon is not just an image—it is a window into heaven. A peaceful space is not just serene—it is an invitation to interior stillness.

In our lives we need to capture this sense of beauty. Not to impress others or to escape reality, but to make space to lift our minds to God.

This week, I invite you to:

  • Arrange a small prayer space at home with simplicity and care.
  • Light a candle and let its flame speak to your heart.
  • Walk in nature and let creation teach you the language of praise.
  • Listen to music that stills your soul.
  • Tend to your surroundings—not for perfection, but for peace.

Beautiful surroundings when embraced with humility and attentiveness, becomes a form of prayer.

Let us cultivate beauty—not as a luxury, but as a spiritual practice. And may it draw us ever closer to the God who is Beauty itself.
