When my boyfriend and I booked a spontaneous trip to Southern Italy, we had no idea where to start in finding the most ideal base for us, somewhere with charm, fewer crowded beaches, and without wasting hours planning, feeling unsafe, or missing the magic.
We craved:

So I made our dream itinerary from scratch, researched everything, mapped every route, and still left space for late-morning gelato breaks and golden hour walks.
The result? The smoothest, most romantic trip we’ve ever taken.

👋 Meet Me — The Traveler Behind the Itinerary
I’m Laura, a travel-obsessed planner, hopeless romantic, and lover of spontaneous adventures and long beach days. As a Maltese couple, my partner and I fell head over heels for the Amalfi Coast, and I turned that unforgettable experience into a carefully curated itinerary to help others plan less and enjoy more.
My partner is the cook in our relationship.

Full honesty: I once burned Dewfresh sausages.
Cooking really isn’t my thing, but my boyfriend? Total kitchen king. 👨🍳✨
So when I booked us a traditional cooking class at a farmhouse winery in Pianillo, it was my first time really stepping into the kitchen, and it ended up being one of the most memorable moments of our trip.
We learned, we laughed, we milked cows, made fresh pasta from scratch, mozzarella, tiramisu and sat down to a homemade meal with wine and views we’ll never forget.
But this guide isn’t just about food or scenery. It’s about flow, knowing exactly where to go, when to go, and how to soak it all in without stress, Google Maps, or last-minute scrambling.

That’s what this itinerary is about:
Doing things you wouldn’t normally do, and loving every minute of it.
🌸 Best Time to Visit Amalfi Coast & Naples
- April to June: Ideal weather, fewer crowds, and blooming flowers, perfect for sightseeing and photoshoots.
- September to October: Warm sea, pleasant temperatures, and more peaceful after summer tourists leave.
- July & August: Hot and crowded. Expect higher prices and limited availability.
- November to March: Quieter and cheaper, but many coastal towns (especially Amalfi) slow down or close for the season. Naples is more active year-round.
🗺️ The Naples Safety Talk — We Took It Seriously
We’ve always dreamed of seeing Naples, but let’s be real: it doesn’t have the safest reputation for first-time visitors.
Before we went, I spent hours researching the safest areas, public transport, and tourist scams. The result? I built our own self-guided walking tour that’s included in the guide:
✅ Safe, scenic, and smart, not just beautiful, but mapped to avoid known sketchy zones.
You’ll hit iconic spots like:
- The Spanish Quarters
- Local churches and artisan alleys
- Street food stops only locals know
- Hidden views with no crowds
We never felt unsafe, lost, or stressed, just curious and confident.
⚠️ What NOT to Do in Naples (Trust Me)
❌ Don’t flash your phone, jewelry, or designer bags.
❌ Avoid walking alone late at night unless you're on a guided route.
❌ Skip tourist-trap restaurants near big attractions, they’re overpriced and underwhelming.
✅ Trust me: go where locals eat (menus in Italian are a good sign!).
✅ Be smart about taxis — Some may overcharge tourists. We’ve also added the safe taxi service we personally used in the same itinerary — highly recommend sticking to it!

🚗 Driving in Naples & Amalfi Coast
(Why We Chose Not to Drive)
We didn’t drive at all during our trip and honestly, it was the best decision for a stress-free experience.
In Naples:
- Traffic is fast and hectic, streets are narrow and crowded, and parking is limited. Navigating as a first-time visitor can be overwhelming. Instead, we explored Naples by walking, taxis, and public transport — safe, simple, and much more relaxing.
On the Amalfi Coast:
- The roads here are winding, narrow, and often busy with buses and scooters. Driving can be nerve-wracking, especially if you’re not used to the conditions. We skipped renting a car altogether and opted for local transport and ferries.

- Language: Basic Italian phrases go a long way and locals appreciate the effort.

- Don’t expect everyone to speak English: Trying basic Italian phrases shows respect and openness.
- Avoid loud or rude behavior: Italians appreciate polite, calm interactions, especially in restaurants and shops.
- Don’t make jokes about Italian culture or stereotypes: They take pride in their traditions and cuisine.
- Avoid discussing controversial topics (politics, mafia stereotypes) with strangers.
- Don’t rush meals or express impatience: Italians savor food and time with family and friends—take it slow.
- Never use your hands wildly when talking: Italians do use gestures, but excessive waving or pointing can be seen as aggressive.
- Don’t order a cappuccino after 11 AM: It’s considered a breakfast drink, and locals avoid it after meals.
