It’s Easy to Say “Give It to God” When Your Actions Don’t Line Up with His Word

In today’s world, we often hear the phrase, “Just give it to God.” It rolls off the tongue with ease, sounding like the perfect antidote to every worry, fear, or hardship. But how often do our actions truly align with this statement? It’s easy to say “give it to God” when, in reality, we’re still trying to control the outcome, manipulate circumstances, or take matters into our own hands.

Words Are Not Enough

“Give it to God” is more than just a Christian catchphrase. It’s a call to action—or rather, a call to surrender. It requires more than lip service; it demands a posture of trust, obedience, and faith. It’s easy to say it, but much harder to live it out when our actions reveal our true struggle with control and doubt.

The Disconnect Between Words and Actions

Many times, we claim to surrender our battles to God, yet we:

• Hold onto grudges: We say we’ve forgiven but our hearts are still hardened.

• Worry and fear: We declare faith but stay awake at night stressing over what we supposedly “gave to God.”

• Manipulate outcomes: We pray for God’s will but secretly scheme and plan to ensure things go our way.

This disconnect between our words and our actions demonstrates a lack of genuine faith. It shows that we haven’t truly let go—we’re still holding on by a thread, afraid of what might happen if we really allowed God to take control.

Faith in Action

The Bible tells us in James 2:17, “Faith without works is dead.” This isn’t just about good deeds; it’s about aligning our actions with our professed faith. If we say we trust God, our actions should reflect that trust. We must learn to:

• Release control: Stop trying to fix everything on our own.

• Pray and believe: Pray with expectation, not doubt.

• Act in obedience: Follow God’s Word even when it doesn’t make sense to us.

The Challenge of Surrender

Surrender is hard because it requires vulnerability and humility. It requires us to step back and allow God to do what only He can do. This is why Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Walking the Talk

If we truly want to “give it to God,” our actions must line up with His Word. We must not only speak words of faith but walk in faith. We must let go of control, forgive genuinely, trust wholly, and obey completely.

It’s easy to say “give it to God,” but true surrender requires us to live out our faith daily, letting our actions reflect the trust we profess. Only then can we experience the peace and power that comes from truly giving it to God.
