In today’s world, manipulation is everywhere – from relationships to workplaces, even within families. It’s so subtle that many don’t realize they’re being controlled or controlling others. But let’s call it what it is: manipulation is witchcraft.
What Does That Mean?
When you think of witchcraft, you might imagine potions, spells, and magic wands. But at its core, witchcraft is about control and influence outside of God’s will. It’s about bending someone’s actions, thoughts, or emotions to serve your purpose.
Manipulation does the same thing. It uses deceit, guilt, emotional pressure, and even flattery to control others. The Bible warns us about this, stating: “For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft” (1 Samuel 15:23).
Rebellion is about going against God’s order, and manipulation is a form of rebellion because it tries to control outcomes rather than trusting God.
How Manipulation Works as Witchcraft
• Emotional Control: Using guilt, fear, or shame to make someone do what you want.
• Deception and Lies: Twisting the truth to manipulate situations.
• Flattery with Hidden Agendas: Saying nice things just to get what you want, not because you mean it.
• Playing the Victim: Making others feel responsible for your happiness or actions.
These tactics are tools of manipulation and they work by influencing someone’s mind and heart – exactly how witchcraft operates.
Why It’s Dangerous
Manipulation undermines free will. It strips people of their ability to make choices freely, which goes against God’s design. God gives us free will to choose Him, to love genuinely, and to walk in truth.
When you manipulate someone, you’re stepping into a role that belongs to God alone , the role of influencer of hearts and minds. That’s a dangerous place to be.
Are You Being Manipulated?
Here are some signs to watch out for:
• You constantly feel guilty or obligated.
• You find yourself doing things you don’t want to do, just to keep the peace.
• The person twists your words to make you the bad guy.
• They use emotional outbursts to control your actions.
Are You the Manipulator?
Sometimes, we’re guilty of manipulation without realizing it:
• Do you give compliments just to get favors?
• Do you play the victim to get your way?
• Do you guilt-trip others into doing things for you?
If any of this sounds familiar, it’s time to repent and break free from this cycle.
Breaking Free from Manipulation
1. Repent and Renounce: If you’ve manipulated others, ask God for forgiveness and renounce this behavior.
2. Pray for Discernment: If you’re being manipulated, pray for wisdom and courage to break free.
3. Set Boundaries: Learn to say “no” without guilt. Healthy boundaries are crucial.
4. Walk in Truth: Speak the truth in love. Refuse to be a part of lies, deception, or flattery.
5. Trust God’s Will: Stop trying to control outcomes. Surrender to God’s will and trust His plan.
A Prayer for Freedom from Manipulation
Heavenly Father,
I repent for any ways I’ve manipulated others, knowingly or unknowingly. Forgive me for trying to control situations rather than trusting You.
If I’ve been manipulated, give me the strength to break free from every ungodly influence. Help me to walk in truth and love, and to set healthy boundaries.
Lord, free my heart from the bondage of manipulation, and teach me to rely on Your wisdom and guidance. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Final Thoughts
Manipulation is subtle but powerful, and it’s time to call it what it is, witchcraft. It’s about control, and control belongs to God alone. Break free today by choosing truth, love, and trust in God’s plan.
Walk in freedom. Live in truth. And let God be God.
