Growing up, I always tried to fit in, but no matter how hard I tried, I never could. I didn’t realize that I was called to be something greater than I had ever imagined.
I wanted to belong. I wanted someone to love me. I wanted someone to like me. I watched others easily blend in, making friends, being accepted, and I longed for that same connection. Even in church, I wanted to fit in. I wanted to be seen. I wanted to be valued. But no matter what I did, it just never stuck.
God’s Assurance in My Loneliness
One day, alone in my room, I encountered the Lord in a way I never had before. He met me in my brokenness, in my disappointment, in my questions of “Why am I not enough?” And in that still moment, He assured me that He was going to heal me from disappointment.
He began to show me what I couldn’t see in myself—that I was chosen, that I was loved, that I was set apart for something greater.
For years, I tried to impress my mother, my grandmother, and the people who called me stupid, dumb, or worthless. I didn’t want to be labeled like that anymore. I wanted them to see the greatness inside of me, to see me for who I truly was—not the stupid girl they thought I was, not the broken girl searching for love in all the wrong places, not the one begging for attention from men just to feel validated.
But God wasn’t concerned with what they saw. He wanted me to see what He says I am.
You Are Called to Stand Out
If you’ve ever felt like you don’t belong, like you’ll never fit in, I want to remind you: You were never meant to.
“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last.” — John 15:16 (NIV)
God never called you to blend in—He called you to stand out. He called you to a higher purpose, one that cannot be confined to the expectations of people who don’t see what He has placed inside of you.
People may have spoken words over you that made you feel unworthy, unloved, and unseen. But their words do not define you—God’s word does.
What Does God Say About You?
• You are chosen – “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession.” (1 Peter 2:9)
• You are fearfully and wonderfully made – “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” (Psalm 139:14)
• You are set apart – “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2)
Stop Trying to Fit In—Walk in Your Calling
God doesn’t need you to impress anyone. He doesn’t need you to seek validation from those who can’t even see your true worth. He has already called you enough.
You may have spent years trying to prove your worth to people who never truly valued you, but today, God is calling you to let that go. The only validation you need comes from Him. The only love that will ever truly complete you is His.
Stop striving for acceptance from people and start walking in the identity God has already spoken over you. You are chosen. You are set apart. You are called for greatness.
And you were never meant to fit in.
