For the average person, blogging may not seem like a big deal. Not too long ago, if you said you were a blogger, people would give you an odd look and either have no idea what you were talking about or simply think you were wasting your time with your little online journal site or a silly hobby. The truth is that blogging has evolved drastically over the past several years and it’s quickly become one of the most powerful methods for quickly creating websites, growing brands, connecting businesses with customers, and even becoming multi-million-dollar companies. Blogging is one of the biggest things to ever hit the Internet. While most people are already familiar with the basics of what a blog is, many are still at a loss when it comes to the details of the complexities that come with this phenomenon. When they first came into use, blogs were simple personal journals that people published online to keep a record of their thoughts and feelings much like how one would use a diary. These blogs consisted of individual dated posts that could contain anything from personal thoughts to records of day-to-day events. These first blogs were maintained by individuals or small groups of people for a wide variety of reasons. However, blogs evolved as time passed by.

When the Internet was first opened to the public.

People had to rely on early online services like Internet forums. These forums allowed people to post their thoughts regarding anything under the sun on forum threads. However, people kept searching for better ways to express themselves online and this is where online diaries came in. These online diaries were the forefathers of the modern blog.  While these early “proto-blogs” had most of the elements of a modern blog, they simply modified websites that lacked the automated elements of modern-day blogs. As more and more web publishing tools became available, the advent of the Blogging Phenomenon began to take shape and people came to realize the power that these blogs had. These blogs became avenues for expression and sometimes, even tools for communication but more than that; people came to realize that these blogs could be used to earn money. People blog for a wide variety of reasons. As stated above, some people simply like keeping online journals. On the other hand, some people, use their blogs as a means of expressing themselves. However, these are just a few more obvious reasons to start blogging and are simply part of the tip of the proverbial iceberg. Blogs can offer you so much more.

What Could You Blog About?

Starting a blog is one of the easiest, most accessible ways to launch your own business and earn an income online (from anywhere in the world). You don’t need to be a professional writer or web developer and you don’t need any credentials, years of experience in your field, or a degree to blog and become successful with it. You can start blogging regardless of your age, location, or experience level and still build a profitable online business. One of the myths about beginning a blog is that you must be an excellent writer to succeed. Nothing is falser than it is. Most bloggers write in an informal, conversational tone since people visit blog sites to gain a personal viewpoint on topics. Moreover, because of the structure, many popular bloggers may cover a range of subjects on the same site. Before starting a blog, the first thing that you will need to do is to choose topics that you can blog about. While you can certainly blog about anything under the sun, it would be best if you pick topics that you are both knowledgeable and passionate about. Everybody has things that they are interested in. Some people are passionate about fishing while others love everything about baking. You may have an interesting hobby, or you may be very knowledgeable about things related to your career. Everybody is an expert in something. These personal hobbies and interests are key elements that you can use to create a successful and popular blog. One of the biggest beginner logging mistakes? Not knowing your audience. In addition to determining what you’ll be writing about, you’ll need to identify who you’ll be writing for. Based on the kind of subject matter you expect to create, consider the types of people who will be reading your blog. Business professionals? Yoga enthusiasts? Expecting moms? Then, jot down some of their interests, pain points, and needs. Based on what you know about their personalities, brainstorm what subjects will interest them or what issues they might be facing. Keep these ideas at the front of your mind when coming up with blog topics and while writing the content itself. For every article you create, you should have a clear understanding of why that piece of content will offer value to your readers.

There are almost as many blogging tools as there are bloggers. Blogging requires regular and daily effort.

Before getting started, these are the two most important questions you must answer.

It’s easy to lose track and focus on a blog when you don’t have a clear plan of attack. Setting up your blog is the easy part. Knowing what you are going to blog about and thinking several months or even years into the future about what and where your blog might be is the hard part. If you don’t know what you want to write about, then you should start to figure out what your long-term goals for the blog are. No matter what focus you have or the topic you are going to be writing about, you need to make sure that you are going to have enough content to write for many need to make sure that you are going to have enough content to write for many years to come. It’s important to choose a topic that you will not lose interest in and something you can build with time. Picking a topic that you are already passionate about can also help you enjoy the process of starting and maintaining your blog. As your blog becomes more popular, the opportunities available to you for making money online increase.

Imagine making money while writing about something you love. For some people, this may sound like the ultimate fulfillment of a lifelong dream; making money out of doing something you love. Also, to have a successful blog, you don't need to be an authority on any of the subjects you write about. For instance, readers of a culinary blog don't want to read a textbook written by a food scientist; instead, they want to hear about someone's genuine cooking experiences, faults, and all. You hopefully have at least a few ideas of what you want to write about. Next, you need to validate those ideas to find the best one for your blog.

Finding your perfect niche is a balancing act between three different factors:

  • How passionate you are about the topic.
  • How passionate other people are about the topic.
  • Whether or not you can make money from the topic

Why are you the best yarn blogger out there?

Whether you are starting a blog for fun or profit, you should be writing about a topic you know about. The last thing you want to do is create a blog and find out a few days in that you have no idea or interest in what you are writing about. Not only will your content be uninspiring, but it will also make keeping up the blog even more daunting and time-consuming. Another reason why it’s important to blog about what you know is that one of the primary goals for your blog is to become an authority site that people visit for specific information. If you are going to be using your name or brand, you for specific information. If you are going to be using your name or brand, you will want to make sure you know what you are talking about, as you want to be seen as an expert in the field and not a hack.

If you’ve decided on a niche topic, you need to define the characteristics that make you the best person for that job. What makes you special enough to write about Hello Kitty all day? Is it ten years of fandom? The ability to knit a skullcap in three minutes. If someone wanted to contact you for a short biography, what would it contain? Remember: Once you become a blogger on a certain topic, you become a de facto expert. You need to back this up in your bio. Your readers will initially come to you for a few simple reasons. These include but are not limited to, your experience in the field, your skill at describing the vagaries of that field, and your readability. Many people start blogs in hopes that one day they will make money from the sites and perhaps even replace their current incomes and jobs. But the last thing you want to do is create a blog that starts to make a little bit of money but is on a topic you hate or have no interest in. When you blog about topics that you are passionate about, it’s that much easier to create not only great content but also a lot of content.
