In the tapestry of our lives, there are threads of relationships that weave themselves into the very fabric of who we are. For me, one of the most vibrant threads was the bond I shared with my nan. She wasn't just a grandmother; she was my confidante, my mentor, and my best friend. Even though she's no longer with us, her presence continues to shape my life in profound ways.
From the earliest days of my childhood, my nan and I shared a connection that transcended generations. We laughed together, joked together, and loved each other fiercely. I was her favourite grandchild, and she made sure I knew it. Our days were filled with endless moments of joy and companionship, and looking back, I realise just how precious those moments were.
We lived together for many years, sharing stories, dreams, and the simple pleasures of everyday life. I can still remember running into her room after school, eager to share my day. Regardless of it being a high of low, she listened.
As I grew older, our bond only deepened. We embarked on family holidays, explored new places, and tackled the ups and downs of life as a team. My nan….. had a way of making even the simplest moments feel extraordinary, and I cherished every second spent in her company.
Yet, amidst the laughter and the shared adventures, there is one regret that weighs on my heart. I wish I had captured more memories with her—more photographs that immortalised her infectious smile, her warmth, and her unwavering love. As a photographer by profession, it pains me to realise that I have only a handful of images to hold onto.
In today's fast-paced world, it's all too easy to let precious moments slip away undocumented. We get caught up in the whirlwind of life, forgetting to pause and preserve the memories that matter most. We assume there will always be another opportunity, another chance to capture that perfect family portrait or candid moment. But the truth is, time is fleeting, and we must seize every opportunity to create lasting memories.
So, I urge you to take more pictures—not just of the milestones and celebrations, but of the everyday moments that make life beautiful. Put down your phones and cameras, be present in the moment, and immortalise the love and laughter that fills your heart.
And if you're fortunate enough to still have your loved ones by your side, don't hesitate to book that family photoshoot or spontaneous snapshot session. Trust me when I say that those photographs will become priceless treasures, cherished reminders of the love and connection that bind us together.
As for me, I will continue to hold onto the memories of my nan, grateful for the time we shared and the love I will always carry in my heart. And while I may not have as many photographs as I'd like, I take solace in knowing that her spirit lives on in every smile, every laugh, and every cherished memory we created together.
In loving memory of my nan, my best friend, and my forever inspiration.
