Being a photographer is a lot like being a superhero, except instead of saving the world, we save memories. We're the ones behind the lens capturing those special moments that people will cherish for a lifetime. But, let me tell you, it's not all sunshine.
Take for instance, the editing process. Oh, the editing process. It's like trying to solve a Rubik's cube blindfolded, but with the added bonus of your computer randomly crashing and losing all your progress. I once spent over 3 hours editing a single photo, only for my computer to reset and for me to have to start all over again. I wanted to cry, I wanted to scream, I wanted to throw my computer out the window. But, I didn't. Instead, I took a deep breath, had a cup of tea (in my gifted lens mug (Thank you SW) and started again. Because that's what we do as photographers. We persevere.
But, it's not all bad. There are moments when we get to witness true beauty, true love and true happiness. Like the look on a bride's face as she sees her groom for the first time on their wedding day. Or the laughter of a child as they chase bubbles in a park. These moments make all the hardships worth it.
Being a photographer is also a lot of fun. We get to travel to beautiful locations, meet new people and see the world in a different way. I mean, who doesn't love a good sunset or a picturesque landscape? We also get to play with our toys, I mean, cameras. And let's be real, who doesn't love a good gadget?
All in all, being a photographer is a lot of hard work, but it's also a lot of fun. It's a never-ending learning process, and it's not for the faint of heart. But, if you're willing to put in the effort and have a sense of humour, you'll love it. So, if you're thinking of becoming a photographer, go for it. But, just be prepared for the occasional 3-hour editing session, the occasional computer crash and the £'s you will end up spending on new equipment..
