Daily Rituals That Keep Me Functioning

This is not a “perfect morning routine.” This is a very honest list of the daily rituals that keep me regulated, grounded, and capable of participating in life without losing my mind. Yes, it still counts spiritually.

Let’s get something straight right away. I'm not floating through my days in a linen robe, sipping lemon water, radiating calm while angels braid my hair.

Some days, my biggest spiritual achievement is not snapping at anyone.

And yet — I am deeply spiritual.

I am grounded.

I am regulated (most of the time).

Because spirituality isn’t about being serene.

It’s about being functional enough to live your life without imploding.

So here are my actual daily rituals.

Not aspirational.

Not aesthetic.

Just real.

Ritual #1: I Don’t Override My Body Anymore

This is the biggest one.

If my body says “no,” I listen.

If it says “slow down,” I don’t negotiate.

If it says “today is not a high-functioning day,” I stop pretending otherwise.

This alone has done more for my nervous system than any meditation I’ve ever forced myself to sit through.

Ignoring your body is not discipline. It’s disconnection.

Listening to it? That’s regulation.

Ritual #2: I Pick One Thing to Do Well

Not ten.Not everything. One.

Some days that thing is work. Some days it’s feeding myself properly.

Some days it’s answering one email and calling it a win.

Spiritual burnout often comes from pretending we’re capable of more than we actually are in that moment.

Choosing one thing is how I stay grounded instead of scattered.

Ritual #3: I Touch Something Real

This one is non-negotiable.

The ground. A tree. A countertop. My dog.

Something physical that reminds my nervous system that I am here, now, in a body, on Earth.

This is spirituality without performance.

No crystals required. Just contact.

Ritual #4: I Don’t Spiritually Gaslight Myself

If something hurts, I don’t call it “a lesson” immediately.

If I’m tired, I don’t call it “resistance.”

If I’m irritated, I don’t label it “low vibration.”

Sometimes I’m just tired.

Sometimes people are annoying.

Sometimes things are hard.

Letting reality be reality is one of the most grounding spiritual practices there is.

Ritual #5: I Laugh on Purpose

Not because everything is funny —but because laughter resets the nervous system faster than most breathwork techniques.

Dark humor. Dry humor. Laughing at myself. Laughing at the absurdity of being human.

If I can laugh, I can stay present. If I stay present, I don’t spiral. This is science and survival.

Ritual #6: I Stop Before I’m Depleted

I don’t wait until I’m exhausted to rest. I don’t wait until I’m resentful to set boundaries.

I don’t wait until I’m overwhelmed to step back. This took practice. And yes, it pissed some people off.

That’s okay.

Burning yourself out doesn’t make you more spiritual. It just makes you unavailable.

Ritual #7: I End the Day by Letting It Be Enough

No mental replay.

No self-audit.

No “I should have done more.”

I literally say:

“Today was enough.”

Some days, that feels believable. Some days, it doesn’t.

I say it anyway.

Final Thoughts (The Important Part)

If your spiritual practice makes you feel like you’re failing at being human, it’s not serving you.

Rituals aren’t meant to impress anyone. They’re meant to support your nervous system so you can live your actual life.

Some days, enlightenment looks like silence. Some days, it looks like boundaries. Some days, it looks like pajamas and doing absolutely nothing.

And yes — it all counts.

Want to Try One Simple Practice?

Tonight, before bed, put your hand on your chest and say:

“I did enough today.”

No chanting.

No visualization.

No spiritual gymnastics.

Just permission.
