FUN WITH SCIENCE THIS SUMMER

Summer learning can be fun. Try some science experiments with your kids and discuss what they are learning. If possible, have them write them up in a science journal.

There are plenty of fun and educational science experiments that kids can do over the summer to continue learning. Here are a few ideas:

1. Make a volcano erupt: This classic experiment is always a hit with kids. All you need is baking soda, vinegar, food coloring, and a small container to create a mini-volcano that will erupt with bubbling "lava" when you mix the baking soda and vinegar together. You can also add dish soap to create more foam.
2. Build a solar oven: This experiment teaches kids about solar energy and how it can be used to cook food. All you need is a cardboard box, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, and black construction paper to create a simple solar oven that can be used to bake cookies or melt cheese on a slice of bread.
3. Create a density tower: This experiment is a great way to teach kids about density and how different liquids have different weights. You will need a tall, clear container, and several liquids with different densities, such as honey, corn syrup, water, vegetable oil, and rubbing alcohol. By layering the liquids on top of each other, you can create a colorful and fascinating density tower.
4. Make a balloon rocket: This experiment demonstrates Newton's Third Law of Motion and is a fun way to teach kids about physics. You will need a long piece of string, a straw, a balloon, and some tape. By attaching the balloon to the straw and taping the straw to the string, you can create a simple rocket that will zoom down the string when the balloon is released.
5. Grow crystals: This experiment allows kids to observe the fascinating process of crystal growth. You will need a container, hot water, borax, and a pipe cleaner or string. By mixing the borax with hot water and suspending the pipe cleaner or string in the solution, you can create beautiful crystals that will grow over time.

These are just a few examples of the many fun and educational science experiments that kids can do over the summer to continue learning. With a little creativity and some basic household items, you can help your child develop a love for science that will last a lifetime.
