Do you make New Year's Resolutions? What do you think is the reason that you do this? Do you like to share them with others? What kind of resolutions do you make?
The concept of New Year's resolutions has a long history, dating back to ancient civilizations. The tradition of making promises or resolutions at the start of a new year has been observed in various cultures and religions.
The ancient Babylonians are often credited with being among the first to make New Year's resolutions around 4,000 years ago. They celebrated the New Year during the spring equinox and made promises to the gods to repay debts and return borrowed items.
The Romans also had a tradition of making promises to the god Janus, for whom the month of January is named. Janus was the god of beginnings and transitions, and people believed that making resolutions at the start of the year would bring them good fortune.
In Christianity, the tradition of making resolutions is associated with the practice of reflecting on one's life and making commitments to positive change. This is often linked to the concept of repentance and the idea of starting anew.
While the practice has evolved over time, the idea of setting goals or making commitments at the beginning of a new year has persisted across different cultures and societies throughout history. Today, many people around the world continue to make New Year's resolutions as a way to set personal goals and intentions for the coming year.
Children love setting goals and learning about the new year. My New Year's Resource gives children the opportunity to make resolutions, learn about other culture's New Year celebrations, and helps children set goals and plan ahead.
