Amazon Listing Terms:
SEO - Search engine optimization. For Amazon listings, this is mostly the words you use in your title, description, bullet points, and back end generic terms/keywords.
UNGATING - All new sellers will be "gated" in certain categories, brands, and sometimes ASIN specific products when starting. Amazon has changed what is and is not included many times over the years. During Q4 they will lock any ungating all together until after January.
- Types of Ungating:
- Category - the broadest type of ungating. Categories like Beauty, Health, and Toys are gated categories for new sellers. An INVOICE will be needed to get ungated in those categories.
- Sub Category - sub categories may or may not need an invoice for ungating. Popular subcategories are topicals and baby items.
- Brand - Many popular brands like Nike and Starbucks will be gated to new sellers. Sometimes these can be ungated automatically and some may only unlock with an invoice.
- Organic/auto Ungated is when you apply to sell in a category, sub category, or ASIN and "based on your selling history, you have been approved". If you are Auto Ungated in something, congratulations, there is nothing else you need to submit. No one is privy to the exact formula of auto ungating metrics, but we do know that time, feedback, and performance can contribute.
Brand Approved - Brand approval is when you submit an application to sell either your brand or someone else's brand on Amazon. Brand approval will allow you to make a listing under that brand name.
- Example 1 - a new Oreo flavor came out and you have brand approval for Oreo. With the barcode on the package and Brand Approval for Oreo, you can make a listing for the new Oreo that is not currently listed on Amazon.
- Example 2 - you buy socks from Alibaba and purchase GS1 barcode. With Brand Approval, you can make a listing under your brand and use the GS1 barcode.
Brand Registered - Brand Registration on Amazon requires the serial number that is received once a trademark has been filed with the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office). Trademarks start at 250$. Brand Registered Amazon accounts will have access to A+ Content and other dashboards and features.
GTIN Approval - GTIN applications will appear with listing a product and you click the box "this item does not have a product code". GTIN approval for a Brand (a brand you have brand approval or brand registry for) will allow you to list that product on Amazon without any GTIN barcode.
