There is something about farm life that keeps faith close.
Maybe it’s because so much of farming depends on things we cannot control. We can prepare the ground. We can plant the seed. We can care for the crop. We can watch the forecast and make the best decisions we can. But in the end, there are still things only God can do.
He sends the rain.
He gives the sunshine.
He brings the seasons.
He gives the increase.
As a farm wife, I have seen that truth play out year after year.
There are seasons when everything seems to come together just right. The weather cooperates, the crops look good, the equipment keeps running, and the days feel productive.
Then there are seasons that test you.
Too much rain.
Not enough rain.
Breakdowns at the worst possible time.
Long days that turn into even longer nights.
Plans that change before breakfast.
And a harvest that does not always look the way you hoped it would.
That is part of farming.
But so is faith.
Planting Is an Act of Faith
Every spring, farmers put seed into the ground with expectation.
You cannot see the harvest when that seed goes in.
You simply do the work that needs done and trust that, in time, something will grow.
I think faith is a lot like that.
We pray even when we do not see the answer yet.
We keep doing the work God has placed in front of us.
We trust His timing.
We believe that He is faithful.
The Bible says:
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
— 2 Corinthians 5:7 KJV
There is a lot of walking by faith in farming.
You make decisions in the spring for a harvest that is still months away.
You care for things that have not yet reached their full potential.
You keep going because you believe there is purpose in the work.
God Is in Every Season
Farm life teaches you quickly that seasons matter.
There is a time to prepare.
A time to plant.
A time to wait.
A time to harvest.
And a time to rest.
We cannot rush the seasons, no matter how much we might want to.
A corn plant will not be ready simply because the calendar says we are ready for harvest. The ground will not dry because we have work waiting. The rain does not come according to our schedule.
God created the seasons, and there is something comforting in remembering that He is Lord over every one of them.
Not just the easy seasons.
Every season.
The busy ones.
The uncertain ones.
The abundant ones.
The exhausting ones.
And even the quiet ones that feel like nothing much is happening.
There is purpose in all of them.
Faith During the Long Days
Farm wives understand long days.
Sometimes supper is late because everyone is still in the field.
Sometimes plans are changed because weather moved in.
Sometimes you are carrying meals, answering phones, running for parts, checking on kids, keeping the house going, and wondering exactly what time everyone will finally walk through the door.
There are days when farm life asks a lot from everybody.
Those are often the days when a simple prayer means the most.
“Lord, keep them safe.”
“Lord, give us strength.”
“Lord, help us make good decisions.”
“Lord, thank You for another day.”
Faith does not have to be complicated.
Sometimes it is simply knowing Who you can turn to in the middle of everything.
Farming Keeps Us Humble
There is plenty we can plan for on a farm.
There is also plenty we cannot.
That has a way of reminding us that we are not in control of everything.
And I think that can be a good thing.
Farming teaches patience.
It teaches perseverance.
It teaches gratitude.
It teaches us to appreciate the ordinary blessings that can easily be overlooked.
A needed rain.
A safe day in the field.
A tractor coming home after dark.
A good stand of corn.
A beautiful sunset over the farm.
A meal around the table.
Another season together.
Those may seem like simple things, but they are not small blessings.
The Harvest Is Worth Waiting For
One of my favorite things about farming is watching the seasons come full circle.
The fields that looked empty in early spring eventually turn green.
Then taller.
Then fuller.
And finally, harvest arrives.
It is a reminder that growth often happens little by little.
Faith can be that way too.
God works in our lives in ways we may not always recognize immediately.
A prayer we have prayed for years.
A door that finally opens.
A lesson we understand only after time has passed.
A blessing that arrives differently than we expected.
The waiting is not wasted.
God is faithful through every part of the process.
Faith, Family, and the Farm
Farm life is not always easy, but I am thankful for the lessons it continues to teach me.
Do the work in front of you.
Be grateful for what you have.
Pray about what you cannot control.
Trust God with what comes next.
And remember that every season eventually changes.
As another week begins and the fields continue moving toward another harvest, I am reminded once again that we do not walk through any season alone.
God has been faithful before.
He is faithful today.
And He will still be faithful tomorrow.
That is something worth believing.
🤍 From my farmhouse to yours, may you keep the faith, trust His timing, and notice His blessings in every season.
