How is your secret place with Father God?
One thing I ask from the Lord,
this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord
and to seek him in his temple.
PSALM 27:4
King David knew what it meant to spend time alone with Father God in the secret place. A lot of his teenage years and early adulthood were spent away from the crowds, either alone in the fields looking after sheep or hiding from King Saul's anger.
When David encountered Goliath on the battlefield, he wasn't afraid of being killed by the giant, even though he was so young and Goliath was an experienced warrior. David's role as a shepherd involved defending his sheep from attacks. He had seen off lions and bears. He was confident that God would help in this battle.
"The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine." (1 Samuel 17:37).
While he was out in the fields alone with the sheep, he learnt to trust God; he developed a relationship with his heavenly Father. So that by the time he became King, he knew how important his relationship with God was.
With all the responsibilities and temptations of being a King, he knew that the most important thing in his life was his relationship with God. Through it, he could do all things (Philippians 4: 11-13).
Even though he failed many times, he still returned to God with a repentant heart (Psalm 51) and became known as a man after God's heart.
If David, who became King, valued spending time in God's presence, or even Jesus (the son of God), who often withdrew to spend time alone with his Father. How much more do you need to create a secret place to spend time with our heavenly Father?

Prayer
Father God, I thank you that you just love spending time with me. Thank you for seeing me as your precious child and that you love what you see in me. Can you show me how you see me?

Father, I need to spend more time with you. Please show me how I can spend more time in your presence this week. I'm sorry when I push you to one side, help me make spending time with you my number one priority.

Father, then there is nothing more precious than spending time sitting at your feet. To gaze at your beauty and listen to your still, small voice. Father, as I spend more time in your presence this week, will you show me more of your beauty to me.
