It takes some trial and error, but resin printing can be painless. These are the key steps that work well when I print my designs:
- I use Elegoo water washable grey, but there's no reason to believe this resin is special (once I finish my current batch, I might switch to white, beige, or yellow to make painting easier)
- These are my print settings on Chitubox:
- Every few prints, I run the leftover resin in the vat through a very fine sieve - it really doesn't take long, especially since I usually have very little extra resin in the first place (since my prints are so small!)
- I cover the printer with a large cloth, folded over in 2 layers. This helps reduce the sound, preserve the resin in between prints, and gives me more peace of mind about fumes.
- I use a very simple carbide knife shapener to shave off one edge of my print scraper to give a one-sided edge - prints pop off very easily this way.
- I do a very rigorous shake and rinse with water and blow off the extra. I leave the waste water in a large pan to cure and evaporate under the sun.
- I leave the prints on a rotating table, exposed to the sun, with the base side down.
That's it! This runs fast and easy, with very little waste, and the prints cure well with minimal warping.
