Your inner shadow is composed of parts of you that you subconsciously reject. When you ignore or reject your inner shadow, it can have a negative impact on your mental health and can manifest as negative emotions and actions. The inner shadow are those parts of the mind that feel disturbing, hurtful, frightening, frustrating, anxious, and uncomfortable. When our shadows are triggered, they bring up powerful emotional reactions. We are not usually aware of our shadows but we are conscience of our emotional responses that are the symptoms. The shadows are down deeper within our minds and show up as projections and dissociations. We often project onto others so we can attack the rejected shadows in others rather than deal with them in ourselves. Shadows come from thought patterns that stir up these uncomfortable feelings. The process of realizing, facing and working through the discomfort is called “shadow work”.
