Pause & Savor For Life
A gentle invitation to slow down, breathe, and make healthier choices with God’s help.
Do you want better health but feel it is too difficult to commit?
You may sincerely want to lose weight and become healthier, yet something seems to hold you back. Are you rushing through your days, meals, or decisions? Somewhere in that rush, your heart becomes divided—half-hearted, half-committed, and half-hopeful.
If this describes where you find yourself today, there's something important to understand:
Your strength alone has never been enough.
You are not meant to do this alone.
One very encouraging Scripture to me is Philippians 1:6: “He who began a good work in you will complete it.”
When you decided you wanted to lose weight and feel healthy—
You didn’t start this desire for better health—God did. He planted it in your heart.
God completes what He starts.
From that perspective, I no longer view healthy weight as simply a matter of trying harder. God can work in us to give us both the desire and the ability to make the choices that honor Him.
This doesn’t mean every choice will be easy, but it does mean we don’t have to navigate our health journey alone.
You can learn to pause and savor — not just your food, but your life.
And that small shift can change everything.
The Gift of Slowing Down
When I embraced a slower pace of life, I didn't consider it a "health strategy." I knew that I needed more peace. Then something beautiful happened.
As I slowed down, I found more opportunities to meditate on Scripture and make thoughtful choices instead of reacting impulsively to stressful situations.
A Pause Before the First Bite
One way to practice slow living is at mealtime. Before you take your first bite, express gratitude to God. This brief pause helps settle your body and reminds you that you’re choosing to nourish every positive intention within you.
When you begin your meal without rushing, you naturally eat more slowly. You can taste and enjoy your food, and stop when you feel satisfied.
This is why the phrase "Pause & Savor for Life" resonates with me; it represents learning to be present with your food, your body, and with God.
Savoring Is Not Indulgence
Many people equate savoring with indulgence, but savoring is actually quite the opposite. When you savor your food, you engage all your senses. As a result, your body recognizes fullness sooner, and you don’t need to eat as much to feel satisfied.
Savoring is practicing self‑control wrapped in grace.
The 3‑Second Faith‑Heart Reset
Out of habit, you might reach for food. After all, you're stressed or eating without paying attention because you're in a hurry. Instead of letting that rushed moment dictate your next actions, pause and refocus your attention on God.
This is where the 3-Second Faith-Heart Reset comes in. The reset is simple for everyday situations: pause, take a breath, and turn your attention back to God. Then, make your next choice with greater intention.
You might choose to drink some water or take a walk. You could meditate on Scripture that helps realign your thoughts with God's guidance. Alternatively, permit yourself to stop rushing.
Apply this Faith-Heart reset anywhere: in your kitchen, during a holiday meal, on a stressful afternoon, or when you feel tempted to eat mindlessly.
Pause.
Breathe.
Refocus on God.
Then, make your next choice with intention, not urgency. It’s a gentle reminder to say, "Lord, help me choose wisely in this moment."
Learning to make wise choices as life changes is part of becoming a Faith Heart woman. This approach offers a fresh perspective on your health journey.
