“I Don’t Like Drinking Water”
Many people admit, “I don’t like drinking water.”
“I don’t like drinking water.”
I understand that struggle deeply.
It took me three years to lock in my water-drinking habit. Three years. And even now, I’m still not consistently drinking the recommended two quarts a day.
But disliking water isn’t a reason to neglect caring for the body as the temple of God.
Sometimes I remind myself, “Nourish your temple.”
Water is essential for life. The human body is about 60% water. So if we have to carry around that much water to regulate temperature, lubricate joints, and flush toxins, let’s express gratitude and honor this divine design. It’s about stewardship.
Five Strategic Times To Drink Water
Hydration goes beyond sipping from a water bottle.
Try drinking water:
- Quench your thirst with water
- When you feel hungry
- When your head feels foggy
- Before and after workouts
- When cravings arise
Often, thirst disguises itself as hunger.
Before reaching for food, try a glass of water first.
Balance Body Fluids with Minerals
A small pinch of Celtic salt in your water can help balance body fluids and support natural hydration.
Trace minerals help improve cellular water absorption, which supports metabolism and energy production.
Here’s why minerals matter:
- Magnesium supports energy production (ATP)
- Potassium reduces water retention
- Zinc supports appetite control
- Iron supports oxygen flow, so your workouts don’t feel like punishment.
- Iodine supports thyroid function
- Calcium assists fat metabolism
When minerals are balanced and hydration is steady, you feel better.
That’s not magic.
That’s divine design.
Eat Your Hydration
If you struggle to drink water, you can eat water.
Water-rich foods include:
- Cucumber (95% water)
- Celery (95% water)
- Zucchini (94% water)
- Watermelon (92% water)
My salad plate is full of leafy greens, pumpkin seeds, beans, and high-water vegetables.
These meals hydrate me while increasing fiber and fullness — supporting a healthy weight without restriction.
For someone who doesn’t love plain water? That’s grace.
Stay Hydrated for Body and Soul
There is a spiritual lesson in physical thirst.
Sugary drinks cannot hydrate the body like water.
Busyness and self-dependence cannot satisfy the soul.
John 4:13-14 uses physical thirst to highlight the soul's need for spiritual fulfillment. Jesus offers "living water"—a relationship with Him—that provides eternal life and lasting spiritual satisfaction.
Similar to how physical dehydration causes bad breath, spiritual dryness can manifest in unkind words and negative speech.
Spiritual dehydration can look like:
- Pulling away from community, prayer, and spiritual practices.
- Ignoring the need for the Living Water: Forgetting to "drink" (engage in prayer, meditation, or scripture).
Just as physical hydration requires intentionality, such as establishing a water drinking schedule, spiritual hydration requires active effort:
- Walk with Jesus: Prayer and scripture meditation.
- Reconnecting with purpose and community: Fellowship with others to shine your light
Caring for your body and soul is not vanity.
It is stewardship.
Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.
A Gentle, Realistic Approach
If you’re not drinking two quarts a day, don’t quit.
Start these 3 rhythms:
- One glass of mineral-enhanced water each morning
- Build two meals around high-water vegetables
- Stay physically active to support blood flow circulation
When you combine physical hydration with spiritual hydration — drinking Living Water — you are stewarding your temple.
Drink.
Eat living foods.
Walk with Jesus.
