Understanding Body Stewardship
The Bible tells us our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), but we sometimes think this means we must have a certain body shape to honor God. My friend, you are loved, and God doesn’t want you to make yourself feel less valuable.
Society's obsession with thinness can distract us from the true essence of stewardship, which is about caring for our bodies through healthy, balanced living. In God’s eyes, your worth isn’t defined by your weight but by your identity in Christ.
Finding Ultimate Satisfaction in God
Only God can fulfill the deepest hungers of our souls. Seek satisfaction in Him, so food is no longer a quick fix for emotional comfort. This shift in focus can be transformative. Seeing food as a gift from God to nourish and sustain us moves us to rejoice in His faithfulness to supply all our needs.
Scripture reminds us that God is our ultimate source of satisfaction. Psalm 107:9 says, “For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things.” By turning our hearts toward God, we can find peace and contentment beyond physical hunger.
Surrendering Fears: Trusting God with Our Worries
Another significant aspect of this journey is surrendering our fears about weight, aging, and health to God. Trusting Him with these concerns allows us to release anxiety and embrace His peace. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us to “not be anxious about anything".
By surrendering our worries to God, we acknowledge His sovereignty and care, freeing ourselves from the chains of fear and insecurity.
Glorifying God With A Whole Plant-Based Diet
Science is starting to agree with what God. We can look back to the original provision of plants for nourishment in Genesis 1:29. Embracing a whole plant-based diet is one practical way to glorify God with our bodies. Eating high-fiber, healthy fats, and plant proteins—such as fruits, vegetables, grains, and nuts—promotes health and happiness.
Switching from Ultra-Processed to Whole Food
Switching to a whole plant-based diet is like a biological reset for your temple. You don't need a PhD to understand how your body responds to "food as grown" from the earth and trees.
When you transition from an ultra-processed diet to a whole plant-based diet, your body begins a rapid and measurable transformation. This is not just a surface-level change. It is happening internally, at the level of your gut, your blood, and your cells.
Day 3: The Inflammation Quiet Down
Within 72 hours, your body begins to calm internal inflammation. This is exactly what happened to me, as I noticed relief from belly bloat and lost inches off my waist.
In other words, in just 3 days, when you remove ultra-processed foods, you stop feeding the harmful gut bacteria that produce TMAO, a compound associated with inflammation in the arteries. Without that constant supply, those bacteria begin to decrease in activity.
This early change often surprises people because it happens so quickly. It is your body responding to relief.
Day 30: Energy Stabilization
After one month, the "3 p.m. afternoon slump" typically disappears. Replacing refined carbs with high-fiber whole foods stabilizes blood glucose levels. Instead of sharp spikes followed by crashes, your body receives a steady stream of fuel.
This leads to:
- The disappearance of the afternoon energy crash
- More consistent mental focus
- Reduced feelings of exhaustion
You are no longer cycling highs and lows. Your energy becomes steady and reliable.
Day 90: The Cellular Overhaul
By month three, your body enters a deeper phase of renewal.
Red blood cells have a lifecycle of approximately 115 to 120 days. By the 90-day mark, most of your circulating cells have been rebuilt using the nutrients you have consistently provided.
Your body shifts into what I call "maintenance and repair" mode. This is not just short-term improvement. This is long-term restoration.
The brain fog clears, and you feel a sense of mental clarity that helps you stay focused on your walk with Jesus.
3 Easy Changes That Reset Your Body This Week
To initiate this reset without triggering overwhelm, consider three easy changes.
Here is how you can start glorifying God through your meals this week with three simple swaps:
- The Bean Swap: For 5 days this week, replace your meat with black beans, chick peas, or lentils. They are the foundation of a nourishing, plant-based meal. Research shows that, for the best hormone-balancing results, choose less-processed forms of soy beans like tofu or edamame. These choices provide an excellent source of protein and nutrients while honoring your body as a temple.
- The Walnut Swap: Replace your meat with a handful of walnuts in your meals. The healthy fats in walnuts delay gastric emptying, meaning you stay full longer, while the omega-3 fatty acids provide the building blocks your brain needs for mental clarity. They are a gift for your spiritual and physical health, offering essential omega-3 and a satisfying crunch.
- The Milk Swap: Consider replacing dairy with unsweetened soy milk. This swap offers similar creaminess and nutritional benefits, but it is rich in protein, making it an excellent alternative to honor your body.
Tips for Success
- Acknowledge Food as Stewardship: I prioritize natural, whole foods over processed ones and view my meals as fuel to have the strength to serve God.
- Practice Gratitude and Mindfulness: Before your next meal, pause and thank God. This simple act will slow your eating and strengthen your self-control.
- Hydrate Strategically: I recognize water as a divine gift to my metabolism and mental clarity. So I drink water between meals, not with meals. Drinking large amounts of water with meals can dilute stomach acid, impair digestion, and hinder the effectiveness of digestive enzymes.
These small changes can make a significant impact on your health and spiritual life.
Your Action Step
Open your pantry. Find the beans, the lentils, or the whole foods you already have—and prepare one simple, nourishing meal.
Don’t wait until Monday. Don’t wait until you “feel ready.” This is your moment.
You are saying, "Lord, I surrender my food struggles, and I choose to honor the temple You gave me."
Take care and be blessed.
