If you've decided, you want to homeschool or are considering the next question you probably have is "how and where do I start?"
First, you'll want to look up your state laws and requirements. Are you required to submit a letter of intent? What are you required to submit every year? Where do you submit these documents? These are all of the initial questions you will have to research. A google search will take you to HSLDA an organization advocating for homeschool families. You can find more information for your state here or google your state "homeschool laws."
Next, you will want to look up what your child is expected to learn and know by the end of the school year. You can do this by searching "1st grade standards for (your state)." Use this as a general guide as to what you will have to teach for the school year.
Afterwards, you may begin looking for resources and curriculums that will help you meet those goals and requirements. Whether you use a free curriculum or expensive one is totally up to you, your budget, and family needs. Keep in mind there are several free curriculums and so many free resources in general.
Do not be discouraged, worried, or scared although it does feel like all of that when you begin, it gets better. Create a routine that you can follow but also remember you don't always have to follow a routine at all. Homeschooling is all about doing what works best for you and your family. Don't worry about following traditional school practices or other families, do your own thing. You got this.
