Here we are closing out another month, and I am sitting in a local coffee shop assessing the month.
Do you assess your months?
Did you set any goals for the month? Are you seeing any progress? If you answered no, then I want to challenge you to change that.
Direction goes where your attention allows it to flow.
If you are not seeing any progression—first in thought, then in action, and then in the results—then there needs to be a modification to your daily schedule.
I get it. We are busy with life.
What does that mean, though?
Are you busy with the life you want to live, or the life that catches all the things that are out there?
My teens were watching one of the Spider-Man movies, and I thought, most people are out there with their webs open, catching things in their thoughts that have nothing to do with what they want.
Then, when they are tired of not getting anywhere, they turn to Social Media University to see if anyone else is out there experiencing what they are experiencing. Looking for validation on why things are the way they are and not the way they wish they were.
I don't want to stay here long, but I do want you to know that this doesn't have to be you.
Whether a person lives big or small, it should be their intention to do so and not because of any outside sources. The people you see succeeding and paying for commercials, opening businesses in what some think is a bad economy, and people buying food and feeding families of seven—they all have things in common that some may just chalk up to having money.
These people have intentions, and their intentions have their attention.
They are managing what they have and drawing in more to support them because their thoughts are pointed toward their goals. These people aren't looking around studying all the things going wrong, what is holding them down, and how they don't have enough to do something they probably shouldn't be doing in the first place.
For the last 10 years, my grocery budget has been $250 a month to feed five people.
People ask me, "How do you do it?"
I tell them my intention is to have more than enough for my family, and that always happens.
We invest our money at the grocery store. My children love granola and salads, and we don't eat beef. Then sometime during those two weeks, someone will bring something to us in the form of meals—good stuff! Just last week, a new business owner brought us sandwiches. We weren't expecting them, but my attention is always set on having more than enough.
I remember when a neighbor got an extra order of produce for four months straight while we were going through a hard month. She brought it to us, and then eventually moved out of the neighborhood.
Things come because I intended for them to come. I went to the coffee shop, and the person two orders before mine paid for five orders after they had checked out.
Abundance.
Now, I hear y'all out there reading saying, "That doesn't happen to me."
Well, it can—and so much more.
If you choose one thing to change, it will change, and your monthly assessment will show results.
Make sure it is something that you are allowing yourself to see.
If you are perceiving that you are short $100 a month, choose to see $200 and watch what happens when you stay the course.
My Life Doesn't Belong to Me, I Just Manage It
This is part of what inspired my new book, My Life Doesn't Belong to Me, I Just Manage It.
I have been thinking more about what it means to manage what has been placed in our hands—our time, money, gifts, relationships, opportunities, purpose, and even our attention.
We can't control everything that happens, but we can become more intentional about what we do with what we have.
And I don't want this conversation to end with the book.
I am also starting a community where we can have conversations like this, assess where we are, become more intentional about where we are going, and encourage each other as we learn to better manage the lives we have been given.
As you enter this new month, choose one thing.
Give it your intention.
Give it your attention.
Manage what you have.
Then, at the end of the month, sit down and assess it again.
What changed?
You may be surprised by what you see.
That's all I have!!!
