Start a Coloring Hobby! (aka Adult Coloring)

Hey there, mama! How are things?! I don't know about you, but I am often looking for a way to find some time for myself. As my kids get a bit older, it's getting easier to make that time. Time to de-stress and (maybe) even get creative. I don't mean that I have plans to create the next award-winning piece of art. I mean literally: creating. Making something with my own two hands--making something that I can SEE. Creating is so satisfying on a deep personal level. I have the NEED to make things! Do you, too?!

If you are looking for a super simple way to get creative, look no further than your kid's art supplies! Yes, I'm talking about colored pencils. Lots of mamas have already jumped onto the "Adult Coloring" bandwagon. The term "Adult Coloring" always made me laugh--I'd envision people coloring in x-rated scenes by candlelight, perhaps with Kenny G playing in the background, haha! But all it means is that adults (not kids) are coloring. You won't have to go buy supplies in the "adult" section of your local Michael's Store or Joanne Fabrics--ha! Now I'm envisioning how hilarious THAT would be. Anyhow, my point is: coloring is not just for kids anymore!!

Are you like me? Do you sometimes need the support of science and data to show you the benefit of something in order to actually do it (even though on a gut level you already know you want to be doing it?). If so, check out the following article:

Your logical mind may be saying, "Coloring?! I don't have time for that!" However, the time you make to color (or make any art, in my opinion!) is time that you are taking for self-care. You are giving yourself the opportunity to relax your brain, focus on something other than your worries, etc. There are so many benefits!

Now--it's one thing to read this. But the benefits come from actually doing the thing. So--go grab a coloring page, poke around in your kid's art supplies and dig out the colored pencils. Start coloring now OR some just get supplies ready for the next time you have 15 or so minutes to yourself!

Lots of love!
