Moms Modeling Self-Care and Creativity

Something that is often on my mind is this: what am I modeling for my kids? Am I showing them to enjoy the small moments? To not stress over every little thing? To care for myself and be kind to myself when I make mistakes? To take time for fun and creativity? I hope so!

One of THE BEST things that happens when I take the time to draw or color: my kids will sit with me and draw and color too! I have the environment prepared already--they could draw anytime by themselves... But it's when I sit down to draw, or they see my drawings, that they will pick up a pencil or marker and get busy. By showing them that I like to spend my time being creative, I show them it's important to me, and a whole lot of fun.

This happened just the other day, which is what inspired this post. My 4 year old saw a fish that I had drawn--one of my current favorites, the Koi Fish Printable Coloring Page, and he immediately got to work! He found paper and a marker, and drew an adorable fish with about twenty fins. He was very pleased with himself! So cute. So, although he didn't even color my coloring page (I got to do that part!), it created an afternoon activity anyway--just by me taking the time for myself to get coloring.

So, when I think about how I want to show my kids to be a person in this world--one thing I will continue to do (for myself, and for them), is to keep drawing and coloring and painting. What hobby brings you joy? Is there a way you can model this for your kids, too? Let me know!

If you do need some coloring pages to get you started, try out my FREE coloring page duo here. Sometimes having the structure of the printed page can encourage us to get our art supplies out once and for all! My goal is to help busy women make the time for little doses of creativity in their day, so I hope my coloring pages help.
