One of the most common questions I heard during my years as a pastor was, “How do I hear the voice of God?”
At first, I thought it was mostly new believers looking for guidance. But to my surprise, seasoned believers, people who had been walking with the Lord for decades, were asking the same thing. That puzzled me.
How could people who had been in church their whole lives still struggle with something so foundational?
And then I started watching. And I saw believers confidently declare, “God told me to do this,” only to change their minds a few days later, saying, “Actually, God told me to do that instead.” It was almost like God had a case of divine indecision.
But of course, we know that God isn’t fickle. He doesn’t wake up one morning and decide He’s changed His mind about your life. The real problem? We often mistake our own emotions, fears, and desires for God’s voice.
The truth is, God is not playing hide-and-seek with us. His voice isn’t some mystical code we have to crack. And yet, so many believers wrestle with uncertainty simply because they haven’t rooted themselves in His Word.
The Bible, the Word of God, is His voice. It reveals who He is, how He speaks, and what His heart is like. But if we neglect it, we’re left grasping at every fleeting thought or feeling, hoping that maybe, just maybe, it’s God talking.
God’s voice isn’t a booming thunderclap meant to startle us into obedience. It’s gentle, familiar, and deeply personal, like a loving parent whispering to their child. But just like a child learns to recognize their parent’s voice through time and interaction, we too must spend time with God our Father to know when He’s speaking.
And let me be real with you, this doesn’t happen overnight.
It’s a journey, a process that unfolds as we walk with Him daily. And the more we lean in, the clearer His voice becomes.
God Speaks to Everyone, Not Just the “Super Spiritual.” Ha ha!
One of the biggest lies I’ve seen believers struggle with is the idea that hearing God is reserved for pastors, prophets, or the ultra-holy.
Let me clarify this: God’s voice is for everyone. He’s not waiting for you to reach a certain level of spiritual perfection before He speaks. He delights in meeting you exactly where you are, even in the middle of your doubts, questions, and messes.
But here’s the thing: We live in a noisy world. Phones buzz, emails ping, and endless to-do lists demand our attention. It’s no wonder so many people feel like God is silent.
If there’s one thing, I hope you take from this, it’s the importance of creating space, space to be still, to quiet your Soul, and to simply listen. Because more often than not, God’s voice comes in those silent, unhurried moments when we’re actually paying attention.
My advice is simple: Commit to reading His Word. Spend time in prayer. not just talking but listening.
It may take time, but God is speaking. And when you hear His voice, it will bring peace and confidence like nothing else.
Hearing Father God isn’t just about making decisions; it’s about knowing His heart. It’s about walking through life hand in hand with the Creator of the universe, your Father, who cares about every detail of your life. Believe me!
So, let’s dive in together. Let’s tune our hearts to His voice. Because when you truly hear Him, I can guarantee everything will change.
