Keep Your Rabbits Cool: Easy Summer Heat Tips

Hot summer weather can become dangerous for rabbits quickly. Because rabbits don’t sweat and handle heat poorly, keeping them cool is an important part of summer care.

The good news is that you don’t need an expensive setup. Simple things like frozen water bottles, ceramic tiles, plenty of shade, good airflow, fresh cool water, and damp towels can make a big difference. During extreme heat, check your rabbits frequently and limit activity during the hottest part of the day.

Watch closely for signs of overheating, including rapid breathing, drooling, weakness, lethargy, very warm or reddened ears, or collapse. If a rabbit appears severely overheated, move it to a cooler area and seek veterinary help promptly.

A little preparation before the temperature climbs can help keep your rabbits safe, comfortable, and happy all summer long. 🐇☀️
