Rediscovering Your Identity in Christ: A 5-Part Blog Series
In a world that constantly tells us who we should be—smarter, more successful, more attractive, more everything—it’s easy to forget who we already are in Christ.
That’s why I created the I AM Who God Says I Am 30-day devotional: to help believers stop chasing worldly validation and start anchoring their identity in the unchanging truth of Scripture.
In this blog series, I’ll walk you through five foundational “I Am” statements from the devotional that will help you build a strong, biblical identity. Whether you're new in your faith or needing a fresh reminder of God's truth, this series is for you.
Let’s start with these five truths:
1. I Am a Child of God
So many of us carry the weight of needing to prove our worth—to others, to ourselves, even to God. But John 1:12 reminds us that we are given the right to be called children of God simply by believing in Jesus.
This truth undermines the notion that our identity is something we earn. Being a child of God isn’t a reward for good behaviour—it’s a gift of grace.
What this means:
You are already loved. You already belong. You don’t have to hustle for spiritual approval when God has already welcomed you into His family.
Ask yourself:
Are you living like a child of God—or like a spiritual orphan trying to earn your place?
2. I Am a New Creation in Christ
2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us that in Christ, “the old has gone, the new is here.” But many Christians still live as though they’re stuck in the old, carrying guilt, shame, or a defeated mindset.
Becoming a new creation means more than just forgiveness; it’s about transformation. Your past doesn’t define you. You’re not the same person you were before Jesus entered your life.
What this means:
You are not damaged goods. Old mistakes do not bind you. God has rewritten your story—and He calls you new.
Ask yourself:
Are there areas where you’re still clinging to an old identity that God has already redeemed?
3. I Am Redeemed and Forgiven
Ephesians 1:7 declares that we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of God’s grace.
Yet many believers struggle to accept that forgiveness is truly possible. We rehearse our past, live under shame, and believe lies that say we’re unworthy of grace. But Scripture says forgiveness is not partial—it’s complete.
What this means:
You don’t have to punish yourself for what Jesus already paid for. When God says you’re forgiven, it’s final.
Ask yourself:
Do you live like someone who’s forgiven—or like someone still trying to earn it?
4. I Am Complete in Christ
Colossians 2:10 says, “In Christ you have been brought to fullness.” But culture constantly tells us we’re missing something—more success, more approval, more confidence.
This verse reminds us: Jesus is enough—and in Him, so are we.
What this means:
Wholeness isn’t found in marriage, money, or milestones. It’s found in Christ alone. You don’t need to add anything to be “enough.”
Ask yourself:
Are you waiting for something or someone to make you feel whole… when Christ already has?
5. I Am Chosen and Appointed to Bear Fruit
In John 15:16, Jesus says: “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will last.”
This isn’t just about being saved—it’s about being sent. God didn’t just rescue you; He entrusted you with a purpose. Your life has an eternal impact when you live from a place of calling.
What this means:
You’re not just here to survive—you’re here to make a difference. God chose you for this season, this purpose, this fruit.
Ask yourself:
Where in your life do you sense God calling you to bear fruit right now?
Final Thoughts: Let Your Identity Shape Your Life
These five identity truths are just the beginning. When you know who you are in Christ, you begin to live differently. You think differently. You choose differently.
And most importantly—you walk confidently, because you know you’re not defined by the world. You’re defined by the One who created you.
