2 Philippines Horror Stories Of Foreigners - Don't Become A Victim!

A true story

“I Lost My House, My Truck, and My Dignity — All for a Filipina Who Said She Loved Me”

I want to share this story because I wish someone had warned me before I moved to the Philippines.

Three years ago, I met a beautiful 26-year-old Filipina on Facebook. I was 54, recently divorced, and just wanted someone to make me feel appreciated again. She said all the right things. Every morning I woke up to “Good morning, mahal” and every night I fell asleep to her calling me her future husband.

We talked every day for almost a year.

She never asked for money — which made me trust her more.

So, when she finally agreed I should move to the Philippines and be with her… I sold everything.

My house. My truck. I even cashed in part of my retirement early to have enough to “start fresh.”

I landed in Cebu in July 2022. She met me at the airport with a big smile and tears in her eyes.

For the first 2 weeks, it was paradise.

We rented a place together. We went island hopping. She cooked every night. I honestly thought I hit the jackpot.

Then things started to shift.

She suddenly had a cousin in the hospital. Needed ₱15,000.

Then her aunt died — ₱10,000 for the funeral.

Then she lost her phone and needed a new one.

All in all, I sent her over ₱100,000 in 3 months.

Then one night, I came home early from grabbing groceries and caught her in bed with another foreigner.

I couldn’t believe it. She didn’t even look shocked.

She said, “You’re too old. I was bored.”

That was it.

No apology.

No regret.

She told me to leave — the lease was in her name.

I spent the next two months sleeping in hostels, trying to figure out what the hell had happened.

She blocked me everywhere.

I came to the Philippines for love. I left with nothing but shame.

I tell this story not for sympathy — but because I don’t want anyone else in this group to be that guy.

If you’re talking to a girl and everything seems “perfect” — slow down.

Ask someone who’s been here a while.

Get real advice before you make a life-changing decision.

I wish I had.

This is Jon's comment (who is a VIP Lifetime member of this group) regarding a foreigner he saw, and should serve as a warning to other expats/tourists of what not to do in the Philippines
