Best Way to Prep the Activity Book for All About Reading Level 1

So you’ve heard good things about AAR and decided to go for it. But now you realise that prepping the program actually entails a lot of cuttings, pastings, and more cuttings! Well, let me show you how I did ours which I think is the best way to set up the Blast Off to Reading! Activity Book of All About Reading Level 1.

Get Started

Detach all the pages from the Activity Book. Cut and trim everything that is needed.

Detach Pages AAR Blast Off to Reading

Find an A4 size notebook (or any that’s big enough to accommodate a page of the Activity Book). I used about 80 sheets of the notebook, so a 100-sheet notebook should safely house all the activities.

Adhere the Activity Book cut-outs to the pages of the A4 notebook. One page per activity. Although some activities need more than a page, just make sure that you have all the cut-outs of one activity in a spread (not back-to-back) so you can easily do the lesson.

Cut AAR1 Activity Book

Most activities will have some moveable cut-outs that your child will manipulate as you do the lesson. It’s best to have them all secured in one place. You may use envelopes for this, then stick the envelopes to the pages of your A4 notebook. Or if you’re feeling crafty, you can make your own customised pockets to house the cut-outs (see “Easy Pockets for the Cut-Outs”).

It would be nice if your A4 notebook has big dividers with pockets so you can organise the extras like the progress chart, stickers, reading list, certificate, etc.

All About Reading Level 1 Daily Schedule

This daily schedule that you can use alongside the Teacher’s Manual is a convenient easy to follow guide that breaks down one lesson into daily lessons that are roughly 20 minutes each. If you need a little help planning your lesson, get the schedule here.

Easy Pockets for the Cut-Outs

Get a piece of paper that is wider but shorter than the cut-outs.

Place double-sided tape on all sides except for the top.

Snip off the corners (marked by red circles).

Fold the edges with double-sided tape towards the back.

Flip over and peel off the backing of the adhesive.

Stick to your A4 notebook, then, insert the cut-outs.

And there you have it. Nicely organised Activity Book 🥰
