Turning Pain into Purpose: How I Biked Across America with the R.I.C.E Formula
After my mother passed away, my world felt shattered. The grief was heavy, the silence deafening, and the question in my mind constant: How do I keep going when the person who inspired me most is gone?
That’s when a wild idea took root—bike across America.
Not because I was an elite cyclist (in truth, I had almost no training), but because I was inspired by a mission bigger than my pain. I wanted to honor my mother’s life and spirit while raising awareness and funds for a cause close to my heart. What I didn’t realize was that this journey would become the proving ground for what I now call the R.I.C.E Formula—a mindset method that helped me push through every challenge, both on the road and in life.
R – Relax
When you’re pedaling for hours in blistering heat or against relentless headwinds, panic is your enemy. I learned to breathe, to soften my grip on the handlebars, to relax into the moment rather than fight it. The same was true with grief—resistance only made it heavier.
I – Intention
Every morning, before my first mile, I set my intention: Ride in her honor, Ride to inspire the world, Ride to raise money for those in need. Keep moving forward.
That focus kept me steady when my body wanted to quit. Intention turns random effort into meaningful progress.
C – Concentration
Some days, I rode through vast stretches of empty road where the scenery barely changed. My mind would wander toward doubt. Concentration kept me grounded—on my breathing, my cadence, my route, and my “why.”
E – Expectation & Elevated Emotion
I started to expect to reach the finish line—not because the path was easy, but because I believed it was possible through testimonials of others who have also Biked Across America & visualization of us completing the ride. I kept my emotions elevated by remembering the possibility of the future-inspiring many lives, raising money to support single mothers, & overcoming what I thought was impossible
By the end, I had not only biked across America, but transformed pain into purpose. The R.I.C.E Formula didn’t just get me through the miles—it gave me a framework for life.
Today, I share it so others can overcome challenges, create clarity, and design the life they truly desire. Because if it can carry me across a continent, it can carry you through whatever road you’re facing.
