Isn’t it awesome that God changed Abram’s name to Abraham — “father of many” — before Isaac was ever born? (Genesis 17:5) And not just him — He changed Sarai’s name to Sarah, meaning “mother of nations” (Genesis 17:15).
Before there was a son, before there was evidence, God declared their new identity. Their names were reshaped to reflect the promise, not the present reality.
The Power of God’s Word Over Our Lives
God spoke destiny over them in advance. He called Abraham and Sarah by what they would become — long before they could see or touch the fulfillment. That is the nature of faith: believing what God says, even when circumstances haven’t yet aligned.
Hebrews 11:1 tells us, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” When God gives a promise, He doesn’t wait until it looks possible. He speaks to what seems impossible, and His word carries the power to bring it to life.
Carrying the Name of the Promise
Abraham and Sarah carried their new names for a year before Isaac was born. Imagine introducing yourself as “father of many” when you had no child — or as “mother of nations” when you were barren. Every introduction was an act of faith, a declaration that God’s word was greater than their reality.
And in time, what they carried in faith became their lived experience.

What has God already spoken over your life that hasn’t come to pass yet?
- Maybe He’s called you healed even though the diagnosis hasn’t changed.
- Maybe He’s called you provider when the bank account still feels empty.
- Maybe He’s called you chosen, anointed, forgiven, even when shame whispers otherwise.
Just like Abraham and Sarah, your identity isn’t defined by the present moment but by the promise of God.
Hold On and Walk It Out
Faith means walking in it as though it’s already done. Speak it. Live it. Carry the name and the identity He has already given you.
Because when God calls you something, it’s not wishful thinking — it’s already reality in His timing.
