Food for Thought: Are You Still in the Room?

Do you have a testimony you can’t share because of where you are?

Are you still surrounded by people who wouldn’t understand—or worse, who don’t want to hear it because it might remind them of their part in your story?

Sometimes, God can’t release your voice until you’ve stepped out of the room that silenced it. You might be lingering in the same atmosphere that once broke you, trying to explain your breakthrough to those who only knew your struggle. But not everyone is meant to walk with you into your next chapter.

Even Jesus faced this. “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town and in his own home” (Matthew 13:57, NIV). The people who watched Him grow up couldn’t see the Savior standing before them—and because of their unbelief, He could not do many miracles there (Matthew 13:58).

It’s the same for us. Some people will never see the new you because they can’t move past the old one. That’s why sometimes, God calls us to move—not out of pride, but out of purpose. He’s positioning you where your testimony can be received, where hearts are ready to hear and lives are ready to change.

I wrote a song called “Wash Me.” For a long time, I couldn’t even share the story behind it. The pain was too close. The people connected to it were too near. But when I stepped away from that environment, God opened the door for the song—and my story—to reach others who needed to know that His love still washes, restores, and redeems.

Now, this song is ministering to those who feel unworthy or unloved, reminding them that God wants to wash them in His mercy and set them free. And that’s what your testimony can do too.

So let me ask you:

Have you been set free but are still standing in the same room?

Has God given you a message, but fear or familiarity has kept you silent?

It’s time to spread your wings and fly.

Go where others need what you have to give.

Your story carries the power to help someone else overcome.

We are called to be witnesses—not just of what God did in Scripture, but what He’s doing in our lives today. When we share that truth, He uses our words, our songs, and our scars to bring healing to others.

So don’t stay where your testimony is unwelcomed. Step into the place where your voice brings freedom. Because someone’s breakthrough may be waiting on your story.
