When Tragedy Prepares a Giant

Had Stephen never been stoned, with Saul watching… would Saul have ever become Paul?

Tragedy can be a spark. Pain can be a catalyst. Stephen’s courage, even in the face of death, awakened a giant in Saul that changed the course of history.

Acts 7:54–60 (ESV):

“And the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul. And as they were stoning Stephen, he called out, ‘Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.’ And falling to his knees he cried out with a loud voice, ‘Lord, do not hold this sin against them.’ And when he had said this, he fell asleep.”

Stephen’s faith and forgiveness in the midst of persecution became a defining moment—not just for him, but for Saul, who would later become Paul, a servant of Christ who spread the Gospel across the world.

Reflection

Sometimes what shakes us the most is exactly what prepares us. God can take moments of pain, injustice, and heartbreak, and use them to awaken purpose, refine character, and shift destiny.

Prayer

Lord, help me to see Your hand even in the difficult moments. Let my trials shape me, refine me, and prepare me for the purpose You have for my life. Amen.
