Bali Day 14: Reflections & Farewell

Hello beautiful souls,

It’s hard to believe it, but today marks our last few hours in Bali. I'm writing this update on the way to the airport to catch our flight to Doha feeling sad to be saying goodbye to this paradise island.

This morning I woke up early, wanting to savour every last moment. Sitting alone on the balcony with my thoughts, I watched the sunrise over the rainforest in the distance, the mist rising from the valley below as the sun’s heat began to warm the earth. There wasn’t a raincloud in sight.....typical for our final day!

After breakfast, we took a longer route to walk back to our villa, savouring all the sights and sounds of this stunning location for one last time. Everything felt especially poignant this morning.

Once back at the villa, we had already packed up, so there was nothing to do except enjoy the sun and the facilities of our private terrace and pool, so that’s exactly what we did. It was so hot that I had no worries about our swimwear drying before our checkout at 1 pm.

After a cooling swim, I stretched out on the sunbed for the last hour, reflecting on our time here. Two weeks in Bali has been so much more than just a holiday. It has been a journey of the soul, a chance to pause, reset, and reconnect.

This beautiful Island has a way of drawing you into its rhythm, its energy. It’s not just the breathtaking scenery or the kind smiles of the people; it’s the spirit of the island itself. Every temple we visited, every offering we saw carefully laid out with flowers and incense, every act of gratitude we witnessed has felt like a reminder to live with intention, balance and gratitude.

I came here hoping to recharge, but Bali has given me so much more. I’ve felt more connected to myself, more in tune with the world around me. Sitting there I was reminded of the importance of being present. Through the simple act of listening to the rain, or the sound of frogs at night, or losing myself in the process of making batik, Bali has taught me that peace comes from embracing the moment fully, just as it is.

There were moments that challenged me too, like navigating the unknown, lost luggage, flooded rooms and roads, waiting for shuttles that didn’t arrive, and braving that gecko call in the bathroom. But even in those moments, there were lessons in patience, trust, and surrender.

As the sun climbed higher in the sky, I felt a deep sense of gratitude, not just for the beauty of this place, but for the experiences it has gifted me. The people we’ve met, the stories we’ve shared, the laughter, and even the quiet moments of stillness have all left their mark.

Bali isn’t just a place you visit; it’s a place that stays with you. Its spirit, its warmth, and its lessons will linger in my heart long after I leave.

I'm signing off from Bali and this little blog of adventures here, our driver has just stopped off at a Batik village on the way so that I can buy some Tjanging tools for applying the wax designs .......look out for that workshop coming soon!

With love and gratitude,

Jayne
