Bali Day 7: A Shaky Start in Ubud

Good morning beautiful 😍

Yesterday was a day of two halves: a bittersweet goodbye to Sanur followed by the excitement of arriving in Ubud...and then another 'unexpected' turn of events!

We woke up to our last morning in Sanur, finished the final bits of packing, and headed down for breakfast. Jason happily tucked in, but I didn't really fancy much, so I just nibbled on some toast. With a couple of hours to spare before our transfer, we decided to take one last walk along the beach. The sun was blazing, and it was uncomfortably hot, but we wanted to soak up as much of Sanur’s atmosphere as we could before leaving.

At 11am, our driver arrived to take us to Ubud. The journey turned out to be a long one, with heavy traffic that crawled at times, but thankfully, the car had air conditioning, so we stayed comfortable. I used the time to catch up on some studying for my coaching course, although it was hard not to get distracted by the sights outside. The temples along the way were beautifully decorated for a festival, and every now and then, I’d catch a glimpse of intricate offerings or the vibrant bustle of the locals preparing for the celebrations.

When we finally arrived at our new home for the week, we were both completely overwhelmed. The villa is beyond stunning, nestled on the edge of the rainforest with the most incredible views. We had a bit of a wait before our villa was ready, but the staff welcomed us with drinks, and we sat by the pool soaking up the sunshine.... That is until the rain swept in again!

Once we were settled into the villa, we couldn’t resist taking a dip in our private pool. The tranquility of the surroundings and the beauty of the space made it hard to imagine wanting to leave at all this week.

In the afternoon, we wandered up to the restaurant for what was described as afternoon tea. Let’s just say it was a little different from the version we know in the UK! It consisted of a cup of weak, milky tea and two tiny Balinese cakes. And unfortunately, this is where my day started to take a turn for the worse.

By early evening, the dreaded Bali Belly hit me, and it hit me hard. I’ll spare you the details, but let’s just say I spent the rest of the night battling stomach cramps, shivering, and throwing up, while Jason ordered room service and happily tucked into a juicy burger.

So, tomorrow’s plans are now a little up in the air. I imagine we’ll stay close to the villa while I recover and try to ease back into the swing of things. Despite the rocky end to the day, I’m still excited about what the week ahead holds for us in Ubud....I just hope my stomach agrees!

Until next time, sending love (and hoping for a speedy recovery) from Ubud,

Jayne
