Walking My Talk: Experiencing the Power of Coaching Firsthand

Hello again, beautiful souls...

It's my Sunday night insights dump again, where I share with you what's been coming up for me while I travel my path to being a more impactful coach.

One of the things I’m realising more and more as I go through this training is that coaching isn’t just about learning a set of skills or techniques. It’s about truly living them.

Every method, every tool, every process I’m learning isn’t just something I’ll be using with clients. I’m actually working through them myself. And I can tell you, it’s been eye opening!

I always knew that coaching can be transformational, but experiencing it firsthand is another thing entirely. The tools I'm learning aren’t just concepts on a page or theories to be memorised. They are real, powerful tools that shift perspectives, break down barriers, and bring clarity in ways I didn’t fully expect.

Look at limiting beliefs, for example. We all have them in some form or another, and when those mind monkeys get to work, they can be relentless, whispering doubts, reinforcing fears, and keeping us stuck in cycles. I’ve helped clients reframe their thinking before, guiding them to move past the blocks that were holding them back. But when I had to go through the same process myself? That was a whole different experience.

It’s easy to see patterns in others, to help them untangle the stories they’ve been telling themselves for years. But when you turn that lens inward, it’s confronting. I’ve had to face my own internal dialogue, question my own self-imposed limitations, and challenge the doubts that sneak in when I least expect them.

I won’t pretend it’s always been comfortable. Growth rarely is. But going through this process myself is allowing me to 'walk my talk'. To practice what I preach.

When I guide a client through an exercise, I’m not just doing it because I learned it in the course. I’m doing it because I’ve been through it. I know what it feels like to sit with the discomfort, to push through resistance, and to come out the other side with a deeper understanding of myself.

There have been moments of realisation that have made me pause and think, 'Wow, if this can shift something in me, imagine what it can do for someone who’s been stuck in the same cycle for years.' Experiencing these tools firsthand is making me even more excited to bring them into my work, knowing how powerful they truly are.

This process is also reinforcing something I already believed in deeply. Coaching isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about asking the right questions. It’s about creating space for people to explore their own insights, uncover their own truth, and take action from a place of clarity and confidence.

As I continue this journey, one thing is certain. I will never ask a client to do something I haven’t been willing to do myself.

Learning to coach isn’t just about gaining new skills. It’s about growing alongside my clients. It’s about leading by example, staying open to my own evolution, and continuously deepening my understanding of this work.

I knew this training would give me new tools, but I didn’t realise just how much it would transform me in the process.

Until next week 🥰
