Outage in Spain – What a (Mis)Adventure

Sometimes all it takes is asking one more time

On Monday, there was a big outage in Spain—maybe you heard about it, or maybe you lived through it.

And of course, lucky me, that was exactly the day I was flying from Rome to Barcelona.

🟢 Perfect timing for chaos, right?

Our flight was only delayed 30 minutes, so we thought:

🟢 Alright, not so bad—we’ll land, grab our bags, and head into the city.”

🔴 Well… not quite.

When we arrived at the airport:

🔴 The lines for both buses and taxis were absolutely insane.

It looked like we’d be waiting for *hours*.

Trying to make the best of it, I came up with an idea:

🟢 “Let’s ask the people at the front of the taxi line if they want to share a ride.”

🟢 It would save money, time—and help others get moving faster too.

My friend offered to ask first. Ten minutes later, she came back:

🔴 Frustrated. Upset.

She had asked one couple, and they just stared at her — no response.

She said:

You could at least say no! Just staring at me like I’m asking something weird is worse.

I asked, “You only asked one couple?”

She said yes. So I took over.

Let me tell you:

🔴 It wasn’t easy.

I got many weird looks and a lot of no”s.

But eventually…

🟢 One person said yes. Then another, who overheard us, joined in.

And then something beautiful happened:

🟢 The taxi ride turned into a fun, spontaneous hangout.

🟢 We had friendly conversations, laughed a lot, and forgot the stress of the airport.

Strangers turned into *travel buddies for a day*.

Instead of using three taxis, we used one:

🟢 Saving money. Saving time. Helping others.

Takeaway?

🟢 Sometimes in life, you have to ask more than once.

🔴 Giving up after one rejection is easy, but it can hold you back.

🟢 Persistence, kindness, and a sense of humor can turn frustration into something memorable.

🟢 Don’t let one “no” stop you—keep asking. You never know what joy might come next.
