Creative Journey

It didn’t start in fashion school. It started in snow.

Kreativity In-Style began with one class, a basic bead making workshop while in the U.S. The class was taught so badly that it made no sense at all the first time around. I had waited seven months to save enough money to buy the two basic tools needed. Each tool was just $6 each, but back then, after paying school fees, there wasn't much else left.

On the day of the class, the weather was brutal. There were weather alerts, snow that refused to stop, and barely any buses—including the late ones.

But after all it took to get those tools, I refused to turn back. I waited in that storm for an hour.

That first necklace I made, I called it “the ugly pink and pearl necklace.” I hated it. So, I stuffed it in a drawer for six months. Until one morning, I got up and reminded myself that I was not a quitter, no matter how disappointed I was. Plus, I chose to ignore the fact that at the time, on top of everything else, I hated the color pink.

I had bought the pink beads because they were all I could afford. 

So, I wore the necklace and earring set to school—and a senior professor at the university saw it and immediately asked where I bought it. I hesitated, ready to call it the ugly pink and pearl necklace, again. Instead, I whispered the words to myself, smiled and told her that I had made it myself. 

Her reply: "I want one like this". I told her that I didn't have any more and couldn't find the beads to make another one. I also added that it was a pity that I had already worn the necklace set. I would have gladly sold them to her. Her words: "I don’t care —I'll buy it." She bought the necklace off my neck for $35 (with the earrings).

That was the spark.

From there, I started creating jewelry. Then with no fancy software and no clue how to sketch, draw or design, I began to experiment with hand bags, then footwear, and now clothing capsules and soft furnishings. I didn’t start with training—I started with curiosity, instinct, color, and style. Years later, I became a certified stylist, and a certified interior design stylist, respectively. But the creative roots of this business were always personal, hard-won, and hands-on.
