Even though I’ve been writing everyday (coming up on day 300 soon - yay!) there are moments when I’m not at my desking putting words down. I’m a crafty girl through and through. I like making things in general and if it’s something I can make for someone else it really makes me happy.
Papercrafts - I love making cards. It taps into my love of sending mail. Almost everyone loves getting a little surprise in the mail, especially if it’s tailored to them.
Knitting - I can do basic stitches and a cable if no one talks to me while I’m counting rows. I’ve made plenty of scarves, hats, fingerless gloves, and cowls. I made a lover a satchel once, complete with mud flap girl on the front. Can’t believe I wasted some of my best pattern work on a relationship that wouldn’t last. I also crochet. It tends to work up faster than knit.
knitted washclothes, resin earrings, postcards, watercolor art
Stickers - I got a cricut machine for my birthday last year and I’ve been making stickers of everything. My friends’ pets have been getting that print then cut special treatment.
Painting/coloring - I dabble with the watercolor paints. The way the colors blend into each other is soothing (I’m not sure the colors are actually supposed to blend into each other, but I do what I want).
I think all the crafty hobbies help me work out plot, setting, and character issues. When I need to turn off my writing brain I’m glad I have other things to turn to. What things do you do when you’re not writing?
