Growing Through Seasons of Waiting

Waiting has a way of testing us. It challenges our patience. It stretches our faith. It forces us to deal with the parts of ourselves we would rather avoid.

Most of us are comfortable with movement. We like seeing progress. We like knowing what is next. We want the answer, the opportunity, and the breakthrough, and we usually want it on our schedule.

But God does some of His deepest work in the seasons where things seem quiet.

A waiting season does not mean God has forgotten you. It does not mean the promise is no longer valid. Sometimes what feels like a delay is actually preparation. Every season has a purpose, even the ones we would never choose for ourselves, "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven" (Ecclesiastes 3:1, KJV).

.

Waiting Changes You Before It Changes Your Circumstances

One of the hardest things to accept is that God is often working on us before He changes what is around us. We ask for the blessing, but we don't always consider the growth required to handle it.

David was anointed king, but he did not step into the palace right away. There was a season where he was hidden in the fields, learning, developing, and being shaped.

Joseph had a dream, but his journey included betrayal, rejection, and prison before he saw that dream become reality. The waiting was part of the process.

Those seasons built their character, strengthened their faith, and prepared them for what was ahead.

Sometimes God is doing the same thing in us. He is working on our mindset. He is healing areas we have ignored. He is teaching us lessons we will need for the next level.

Waiting Will Test Your Trust

It is easy to trust God when everything is moving in our favor. The real test comes when prayers seem unanswered, doors remain closed, and we cannot see what God is doing. That is when we have to decide whether we trust God because of who He is or only because of what He does.

"But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint"(Isaiah 40:31, KJV).

This scripture does not say waiting will never be difficult. It says God will provide strength while we wait.

Sometimes the waiting season teaches us dependence in a way that a season of ease never could.

Waiting Does Not Mean Standing Still

There is a difference between waiting on God and putting your life on pause.

Waiting is not an excuse to stop growing. Noah built the ark before the rain came. David developed his skills before he became king. Jesus prepared before He stepped into His public ministry.

There was work happening before the promise was revealed. While you wait, keep becoming.

Grow in your relationship with God. Develop your gifts. Gain wisdom. Heal from what has hurt you. Strengthen the areas of your life that need attention. The waiting season is not empty space. It is an opportunity to prepare.

God’s Timing Requires Trust

Sometimes we think God is saying no when He is really saying not yet. And "not yet" can be difficult because it requires patience and surrender. We want the opportunity, but God wants to make sure we are ready for the responsibility that comes with it. We want the blessing, but God also cares about the person receiving it. A door opening too soon can be just as challenging as a door staying closed too long.

Trust that God knows what He is doing, even when His timing does not make sense to you.

What Happens in the Waiting Matters

The hardest place to be is between what God promised and what you can see.

That space can bring questions:

"Did God forget about me?"

"Am I still on the right path?"

"Why is this taking so long?"

"Did I completely miss the mark?"

But a quiet season does not mean God is absent.

Growth is happening. Strength is being developed. Faith is being stretched.

One day, you will look back and realize the waiting season was not holding you back. It was preparing you for your next season. So keep trusting God. Keep doing the work. Keep allowing Him to shape you.

Because when the time comes, you will not just receive what you prayed for; you will have the maturity to carry it.

"Though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry" (Habakkuk 2:3, KJV).
