February Reading Recap!

It's March already, and I read two books in February, neither of which is in my normal reading genres! I'm normally a pretty slow reader, especially when I'm writing and working on a million other projects, so I'm happy I got this many books in!

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

First, I read The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, which has been on my TBR for a long time now!

This is a YA Mystery novel, first in a series. I read it so fast, because the mystery was really enthralling, and the chapters are short and punchy--each chapter there is some new development to the mystery of why Avery Grambs inherited a massive fortune out of nowhere from Tobias Hawthorne. A fortune that didn't go to any of his family, but a seemingly random girl from Connecticut.

I would definitely recommend picking this one up if it's still on your TBR! I'm already reading book #2, The Hawthorne Legacy.

Mind Walker by Kate Dylan

Next up was Mindwalker by Kate Dylan. This is a sci-fi dystopian novel, which also appears to be a series (though it looks like the other book(s) follow different characters). I came across this book last summer, and have been wanting to read it since then.

It follows Sil Sarrah, a girl who at the age of 8 voluntarily enrolled in Syntex's Mindwalker program, to have incredible technology installed in her brain which would allow her to "walk" in other people's bodies. She uses it to extract Syntex's field agents from dangerous situations (usually stealing or monitoring other technology in the post-Annihilation world). But these supercomputers only last so long, and she knows eventually she'll burn out--literally--around the age of 18 or 19.

This book took an unexpected twist early on, and from there it was just a fantastic sci-fi romp through this dystopian world where technology is either shunned by certain factions, or heartily embraced by those with "mods". I thought the worldbuilding was amazing, and the technology very cool.
